This is crap. I read an article a few days ago on the front page of the Vancouver Sun with the headline:
"US admits that terrorists did not enter through Canada."
Sure, the terrorist with a trunk full of explosives bound for the Space Needle entered from Canada, but he was caught. Timothy McVeigh, who was successful, originated from the US.
There is no way anyone can blame Canada for the terrorist actions of Sept 11. The 800 addional troops patrolling the border are a token effort if that. First of all, Canada has just over 30 million people, and the largest coastline of any country in the world. It is impossible to prevent everyone from entering. Even the USA cannot patrol it's own borders effectively despite having such a large military. Look at how many illegal immigrants cross over from Mexico and Cuba. Look at how long the US-Mexico border is, and then look at the US-Canada border.
Just remember, any terrorist that bombs something in the US after being in Canada, not only got into Canada, they got into the US as well.
Canada does not, in any way, shape, or form, condone terrorist activity, or provide a safe harbour for terrorists.
The point about something having to be done in order to secure our borders is well taken though, and definitely needs to be addressed, for the safety of both nations.
