Not sure, it sounds like a waste of money to prosecute a corpse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_legislation#United_States

So you just proved to all of us that this thread is a waste of time.

Historically, various states listed the act as a felony, but all were reluctant to enforce it. By 1963, six states still considered attempted suicide a crime (North and South Dakota, Washington, New Jersey, Nevada, and Oklahoma, which repealed its law in 1976). By the early 1990s only two US states still listed suicide as a crime, and these have since removed that classification.

Most of the time you have to straight up post quotes. A lot of posters know the answers to most questions and won't bother checking sources.

I dunno if that's all that effective today. The idea is that you'll die painlessly from the Carbon Monoxide, but today's catalytic converters do a good job of turning it into CO2. I suppose that there might not be enough oxygen to convert it to CO2 eventually, but then there wouldn't be enough for your car to keep running, either.

Detergent Suicide sounds like a better way to do it:

That looks deadly!!

I didn't think about the catalytic converter, I guess that would be easy enough to bypass though. I'd prefer to just get ripped and then fall asleep to never wake up. I like the way they did it in Soylent Green.

If ideas are worth something, then life has to be worth something because without life there are no ideas.

To my way of thinking, just because something has no "inherent" value doesn't mean it doesn't have value.

Why do you NEED to play daft, you know perfectly well that ideas are read by anyone and everyone and made into new interpretations without their own lifes being meaningful or successful.

In a thousand years, do you think you and me will matter at all? What did our lives change? Our ideas might live on, but ideas is not the same as life, anyone can have them and eventually will.

In the end, you have to find your own meaning to get up in the morning, my meaning is that i still have a home to come home to eventually and that is all i need.

Given enough time, that will be erased within history just like you will be.

Ah but the only value to life IS inherent. When thought stops and there is silence within, the world and the true self pop into being and everything is infinitely perfect. This is your ground state and how you came into the world.

I guess it would depend on what one values.

I beleive I know the peace of which you speak. As someone who lives out in the Plains, I loved the movie Dances with Wolves and the beauitful scenery shoots of the grasslands. Many of us "natives" had to laugh amongst ourselves at all the tourists coming through who wanted to know where to go to see those beauitful grasslands. They are everywhere here, you just have to stop long enough that you can unwind enough to see them.

I own several hundred acres of native grassland that hasn't been hayed or grazed in 10 years and some of over 20 years. Just go walking around in that right after sunrise or an hour before sunset. You soon forget all the things that seem so important amd revel in the here and now. You just ARE. A few tokes of a little weed if you have some doesn't hurt either but really isn't necessary.

This issue angers me a lot. Why should government decide whether I can take my own life or not? It is none of the government's stinking business!
