Amanda, those sauces are almost entirely mayo based,to the tune of like 400 calories of almost pure fat.
You could have a lot of other really good tasting things for those calories.
Not the chicken nuggest sauces. They are mostly corn syrup.
Anyway, those sauces are very expensive (relative to how much you might think that they cost). They cost $0.10 each. If you get 8 sauces like some people want, you start putting the profit on that sale to $0, and if they don't order a drink, they could even lose money.
As for the attitude, I'd imagine that the reason is McDonald's upper managment is pretty crappy. In our stores, you can't call in sick without a replacement or you're fired. Kids sick? Too bad. I once worked an 18 hour shift making food on the assembly line while I had strep throat and a stomach virus. I would literally throwup in a garbage can right next to the dressing table every 5 minutes or so, for 18 hours. You'd get 15 minute breaks on an 8 hour shift, and then have to pay for your food. Many times we got *no* breaks. You work 3 22 hour shifts in a row, and then tell me how nice you're going to be to a rude, old woman who says that she's going to spill coffee on herself and sue you because you only have toys that have girls as the main character, and playing with those will turn her son gay.
You also have to consider that many of the workers work there because they can't get jobs anywhere else. Heck, we had a guy who spoke no english, and had no schedule. He just came in whenever and worked. IIRC, they paid him very, very little money.
Just order what you want the first time, don't ask your kids when you get to the counter, or try to be cute and get them to order for you. You'll get your food as quickly as they can make it, and you'll get fairly friendly service most of the time. We always used to say "Even the smartest person turns into an idiot when they become a customer."
One last thing. However hard it is for *you* to hear the order taker at the speaker, it's 100 times harder for him to hear you.
