the only thing i can think of is that that they needed a different design to do the custom option. If you do it with the old design, then you will get lots of coffee grains in the drink

Oh well. That and it forces people to buy a new machine.

I actually interviewed with Keurig a few months ago. That place is growing like crazy. man, just from a stupid coffee maker. That said, for not getting the job, I bought this instead...

99.9% of the time when a company is involved the answer to any question is to make money. Sometimes they gamble too much on the ease of making money and fail. Hopefully Keurig is one of those companies.

There has been some problems with the design of the current cup. Keurig fixed most of the problems with it on current models but it wasn't ideal. There were also other manufacturers that tried to copy the design and that resulted in users being sprayed with hot water, those were recalled recently. If you notice on the vue models they have moved the location of the cup so that users cannot get sprayed by hot water if something goes wrong.

Wow. What a crap move on Keurig's part. I guess we'll see K-cup clones soon?

Anyway, I agree there's a flaw in the current models. I've gone through 4 replacements and this one is now going. We have enough points at Keurig for 1/2 off a Vue so to hell with it.

The k-cup patent is expiring.

Yep. I'm friends with a guy who works in a factory that stamps and cuts the foil lids for k-cups. He was just telling me a few weeks ago you'll start seeing new cups from Keurig because their patent was up this fall.

Well, I hope that companies continue to produce lots of varieties of K-cups. Seems like just about everyone has a Keurig recently.

Why is Keurig coming out with a new format (Vue)

http://www.keurig.com/vuesystemI don't get it. K-cups are nearly ubiquitous at this point. Why come up with an entirely new format at this point. AFAIK only Keurig brewers can do K-Cups. What's the point of replacing a proprietary format with another proprietary format?

Keurig licensed the K-cup system to just about everyone.

In fact Star Bucks just came out with their version of the K-Cup system so Keurig knows sales of their system will fall off just about completely.

What the hell is with people and this thing? It's pretty expensive just for one cup of coffee. ($150 machine, each k-cup is like $0.75...)

Truth be know, the $30 Black and Decker will make a better pot of coffee than the $200 Keurigs and Tassimos. The K-Cups alone cost more per pound than premium beans. That's a pretty huge premium for a relatively minor convenience.

More like .40.

Basically, time=money. Once you become an adult this ratio is more important. I would say more about your daftness but I'm in a good mood.

My parents have always just used an automatic coffee maker...

Regardless, I don't understand the endless fascination with coffee. I've never liked the stuff. When I get a job it's much more likely that I'll just convert to a water only 'diet'. Diet soda is fun for now.

Great. Why are you in this thread. Go start a thread to help you figure out why some people like coffee and others don't.

They're wasteful. I can make a pot of coffee for the same cost as a Kcup, or I can French press a single cup, and it's so cheap as to be almost free on a per cup basis. Kcups also use a bunch of resources packaging everything in single serving containers.

Meh, still worth it to me. Especially considering I get them for cheap from costco. I don't have time to drink an entire pot of coffee before I leave in the morning and the instant delivery is really nice. It's personal preference.

I disagree

I am alone at work and found it wasteful to make a full pot of coffee just for myself and by the morning it smells like ass.

Nice to make a single fresh shot of coffee when needed.

You need to drink faster, or shut it off after an hour, then drink it cold. I'm enjoying a cup of cold coffee from this morning that I didn't finish before leaving the house. I couldn't find my travel cup, so I said to hell with it. Also, if I worked in the office, I'd take my own coffee in a thermos. If work provided the Kcups, I'd possibly use those, but that's hypocritical. I haven't yet perfected my character, so it is what it is ;^)

This. It is convenient for me to get up and get to work in the morning. Later in the day, I use a french press so that I drink coffee more for the enjoyment than the caffeine (which is always a bonus). Its convenient in the morning when my brain doesn't want to think about coffee anymore than "see button, push button, coffee.".

For an added bonus, get a mykcup attachment. You can make your own k-cup which is cheap, and less cleanup/prep than a french press.
