Why is iTunes SO SLOW?

Shawn

Jesus, I have a C2D with a fairly recient video card yet this thing lags soooo much. WTF kind of shit it this? All I want to do is put a few songs on my mom's ipod without having to wait 10 seconds for itunes to respond after every song I drag onto the ipod.

Ya, I hate iTunes. My room mate has said before that you can use Winamp to transfer songs onto iPods though...

Depending on how you load songs, it can suck. I usually just load playlists of the songs and go from there. One sync, walk away and let it load...I believe the pause you are experiencing is the actual loading/copying of the song onto the iPod individually.

apple intentionally makes crapware for windows such as itunes and especially quicktime to get idiots to think "OMG WHY IS WINDOWS SO SLOW AND ALWAYS CRASH IM GOING TO GET A MAC"

Agreed. I've been using itunes at work, and I haven't had time to play with winamp on my home desktop in ages. I forgot how snappy it is by comparison.

My PC is amazingly fast.

iTunes on my PC is as slow as democracy in Russia.

iTunes on a low end MacBook is fast as crap.

I hate Apple for it.

i like my theory best

mine never lags...nearly

much less than any other program i use

i try to keep clutter off my macbook, but still, i dont usually have a problem. thats kinda weird since its a fairly simple and single-tasked program

EDIT: i agree with the theory too....but i dont remember how itunes performed on my pc. ever since i picked up my mac, i havent gone back. i dont know if thats a good or bad thing.

Any music manager that'll work with an iPhone? I'd love to get away from iTunes as much as possible.

edit: nvm, that wiki has a table for Touch/iPhone compat. Great page! (I forgot about Songbird's official release)

iTunes is the worst. I'm such an Apple fanboy for everything else, but that program is bloated as hell, even on Macs. I'm too used to all of its features to get rid of it, but I do curse it daily.

Apple sucks. Hard.

There are a number of ways to load an Ipod. You can use Rockbox, my method of choice. This is entirely different firmware for the Ipod (man, I bet it just kills the stupids that I capitalize the I and not the p  ), which allows it to play flac and ogg-vorbis, among other formats, as well as be loaded just like the USB storage device that it is.

Alternatively you can use a standalone loader like EphPod. Lastly, there is a plugin for foobar2000 called foopod. And if you use winamp, I believe there's one for that too, but you're on your own as I don't recommend that player. foobar2000 > *.*

Works great for me on my Macbook. I recall the PC version did suck ass though when I used it a few years back.

Does anyone know which of the "iPod Manager's" works with the iPhone? I have tried the "SharePod" App and it doesn't work, I am stuck with iTunes which is so bad - its actually got me to the point that I want to get rid of the iPhone all because of iTunes
