Why is it that sometimes when linking a word, everything in the text becomes linked!?

I see this happening to others on the rare occasion, and it's happened to me occasionally, but so rare I didn't bother asking about it before. But now when I edit this thread, everytime I try, it links all the rest of the text! [edit] Test link

I searched for this in the search function here and using Google (1st page), and nada, which I was surprised at.
Any idea what's going on? (I'm going to try editing this post in a minute).

[edit] Yep, they you have it, edit a post to add in a link and it's url'd everything! (not this because I added it in afterwards).

I see the same issue occasionally when I bold a word or phrase. I have to toggle bb code and fix it manually.

It's not occasionally: try linking or bolding something @ around the middle of the text AFTER you finish typing what you want and everything after that will get linked / bolded.

I have to manually un-link or un-bold everything and it's VERY annoying.

Sometimes if you post a couple sentences the software will treat the last word next to the period and the next word of a new sentence like a web link. That looks very odd when it happens.

The forum software has known bugs like those posted above mine. I hope it gets fixed in the next update.

You know I looked for a BB code button to see what was going on, but I couldn't see it! I must be going blind, lol, I'll look again....... [edit] Ah it's the gear icon, that's usually used for settings! :p
I see now, it just slaps the close bracket at the end of the text! Wth??o_O

HTC

Trust me: it's not JUST a couple of sentences.

For example, and in this very reply, when i bolded the part in your post's quote, everything else after that got bolded too, including the "/quote", and that's before i even started to type this reply: had to un-bold it before starting to type.

Worse, when attempting to write the reply after bolding something and having to un-bold what wasn't supposed to be so, it SOMETIMES starts as bolded / linked EVEN THOUGH the bold button is off BEFORE typing (it turns itself on). I erase it and turn the bold button off and it sometimes does it AGAIN: very VERY annoying. In this specific reply this didn't happen, but it does sometimes.

Was attempting to make a test and, after recording the video, there was an error and i had to restart my PC. Here's the video:

Something i noticed is that when i un-bolded, the bold button turned off but, when i placed the cursor, it turned itself on which, by itself, should be a bug, i think.

This happens with linking text and with underlining as well and is pretty much like this except with a link or underlined text.

Wow! It's even worse than I thought, in my thread I linked earlier it doesn't just add the [/URL] at the end of the post, it spams the link right throughout the post!:confused_old:
I've highlighted the spammed link.

Resulting in this mess.

Resulting in this mess.

And even the supposedly blank lines of interval for easier reading have them links.

Yeah, this has been messed up for a long time. I continually have to edit almost every post I make to reformat links and reset fonts.

I thought i remember reading it was mostly a firefox issue with the forums. I use FF & have the issues described & have it for a long time now.
What browser are you guys using?

edit-
Here's the thread i was thinking about. There is an issue with FF, post #6
https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/new-issue-bolding-text-of-quote-bleeds-into-response.2570661/

Happens to me all the time, and I use Vivaldi (which is Chrome based). I also sometimes use Waterfox (which is Firefox-based) and have the same problems.

Verified. It could be either a forum software bug or a Firefox bug.

No problem for Chrome in my case.

After bolding just 3 chars in the first line, Firefox will also bold the following lines, it will look like the following, however.

aaaaaaaaaaa

bbbbbbbbbb

ccccccccccc

Now try that but, instead of bolding, attempt to link something to those 3 chars, then post it, and finally try to edit it and see what a bloody mess it becomes. HINT: it seems to be bad BEFORE attempting to edit, but it's actually worse.

Please record the process, like i did in post #7 in this topic (i did it for bolding only).

Also, and before anyone claims "this is a firefox issure with Xenforo", while that COULD be true, I DO NOT encounter this problem @ TPU using Firefox, and TPU uses Xenforo too, so something else is happening here.

Same, after insert URL link for "tech" on the first line, it automatically links the following lines. Still only happens in Firefox.

It probably has something to do with the Froala Editor that XenForo uses.

Did you attempt to edit?

You'd find even the lines of space have the links, and not just the text itself. In this specific example, and since you left no line of space between the "x" line and the "y" line, maybe not but, if you had, you would have it.

Does it matter? It's been proven that there is a bug.

It's XenForo / Froala's job to fix it.

Wonder if that other forum is using a different version than here? Can we see which version we have here? I'm not seeing it.

I do have FF, but H T C's comment is interesting and muddy's the waters ;).
Hey, i did say "mostly a firefox issue"... mostly :p

Another issue I see daily with this new forum software is the spell check just stops working and the mispelled words are no longer underlined. I have to right click the reply box and untick spell check and re-tick it to get it working again. This has been going on for a long time and I use Firefox. No problems with other sites.
