Reality shows are what the people want. Their craze falls in the line of human soap operas for primetime stripped of some of the cheesy contorted storyline factor.
I happen to enough some reality shows like Survivor, Amazing Race and the Mole because I enjoy watching people scheme. They are game shows just produced differently.
TV is a choice. Don't like it. Don't watch. That simple.

Reality shows are what the NETWORKS want. Why? Cheaper to produce, thanks to basically just hiring the filming/production crew. Hence a greater ROI and a better bottom line. People watch them because they're on, not necessarily because they're good. People will watch just about any old crap.
