i have an LCD monitor so the refresh rate doesn't matter so much, however i still like it better at 75 rather then 60. the CRT monitors in my school though, are set to 60 and since i can't change it (locked out), i simply never work there as it drives me nuts. in my old crt, i never had anything less then 85htz.

60hz is a horrible flicker from looking straight on, but when we get to 75hz, I can only tell if I look out the side of my eye. 85hz and up is actually comfortable.

I wonder why that is? I read somewhere about how our eyes are that way to allow us to respond quickly to peripheral movement, but the only info I can find now is about rods and cones. And it seems like the rods (more concentrated in the peripheral vision) have a slower response time than than cones (in the center).

Hrmmm...
Yes, you have better motion perception and low light perception at the periphery of your vision than in the center. This is because rods are better at those 2 things than cones and rods are found in greater concentration outside of the center of your vision. The center of your vision has better color perception and resolution.

Unfortunately running vsync in games maxes to 75fps with LCDS. :(

I agree that it depends on the monitor (CRT). I had one 19" that looked best at 72. But the Dell Trinitron at work looks best at 85.
