Why is intel so much more stable than AMD?

Dell, rock solid ? Tell that to the 15 out of 30 people on my floor that have had problems with their new PC's during the latest "refresh" Mine included. Had to swap out the motherboard. And I have had to fix 2 Dell computers for aquiaintantces (sp) of mine that had problems, one was software problem from dell (sp2 suto-installed, and it wouldn;t even boot, and I couldn;t get it to boot in safe mode to remove it) and the other was a bad PSU, 1 month out of warranty.

I'm not saying AMD is perfect, but I will say Dell is worst than a retail Intel chipset motherboard with a decent power supply, and AMD and Intel are the same overall (if you exclude Dell crap) for stability.

Dell's big advantage, like Intel, is ADVERTISING !!! And AMD and Intel have good products, and Dell is marginal.

AMD is the best price/performance ratio, PERIOD, I suppose it all depends on what chipset you're using on the motherboard though, I could see where using an old SiS or VIA chipset could cause some problems. I've never used anything but the nforce platform myself, so I can't speak for experience there. I do know this though, my AXP 2800+, runnin at 3200+ is 100% stable, and I love it

If you read around these forums, you will find that their customer service has gone way dowan lately. I was the object of that same bad service myself. I wil NEVER recommend anybody buy a dell, unless the parts you could rip out of the system together (that are any good) make it a good price.

Firstly, I am with the group that believes Michael Dell is one of the smartest businessmen in the last 10 years.
However, most people don't really understand his business very well...

Dell makes very little on the computers themselves. They sell the cheapest and nastiest components going for next to nothing (relatively speaking). What Dell DOES sell (and profits massively on) is service contracts!
For example, take the $450 Dimension 3000...the computer (including overhead, assembly, design, etc...) probably costs them about $420 to deliver = $30 profit
The default premium warranty package on that (4 years including on-site and phone support) is $257...Dell's amortized cost on the warranty is around $70-$100 total over 4 years = $157-$187 profit!

Since they have deals with so many suppliers for just in time delivery, they have next to no inventory costs (this also means that you will only rarely find any two identical Dell machines with identical parts in them...)

Also, it doesn't matter what the quality of the parts are, as Dell has contracted out all of the service anyway...

Dells are 2nd. in cheap shite , GATEWAYS !!! Dell markets way to much of their low buck stuff so as to have the sheepole all have a box in the house . Back to the subject , AMD is just as good as Intel . Built many of both . Really enjoyed AMD , Always sided with them , kind of underdog....

I would not say AMD's CPU's are less reliable than Intel's, I would simply say there are generally lower quality more budget style boards built around AMD platforms, which are more likely to be your problem, than the CPU itself.

My old school uses Dell computers. What a waste. Every couple of years they end up with a room full of 50 useless computers because they cannot be upgraded. :thumbsdown:

If I were to purchase a name brand computer, I would buy from someone that offered me the choice between intel and AMD.

I guess this is why I don't shop at the Sony Store.
