A lot of the people in those categories are some the least educated people around.
Look at Britney. Hell, look at pro baseball. Most of those guys have a high school education or less.

He can say whatever he likes, but I can rip on him for saying it. I am a little fed up with all these gay pride groups that are so butt-hurt (no pun intended) over 1 man's comments though. It's just one man and they are acting like everyone in the entire country is trying to give them the shaft (another no pun intended).

Because he's free to say whatever he likes to say, but he's not immune from public criticism.

I can almost guarantee there'd be plenty of pro-Christian groups raising just as loud a stink about such a comment.
QFT.

Imagine if a star NBA player did an interview and said:
"First of all, I wouldn't want <a Christian> on my team. And second of all, if he was on my team, I would, you know, really distance myself from him because, uh, I don't think that is right. You know, I hate Christian people, so I let it be known. I don't like Christian people and I don't like to be around Christian people. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."
That would be a HUGE news story.

uh who the hell says butt-hurt... in any type of convo or post regularly? your obviously trying to make it a pun. Shaft is more common so I'll give it to you but in the same post as butt-hurt your obviously trying to hide your view but it isn't working out.

They are acting as you would expect a gay pride group to react. They are reacting against him because he as a "celebrity" must keep tighter control of their mouths and as a celebrity may influence more people.

Haha YES I love it! :)

LOL. That's the funniest thing I read all day. Your response to a guy who posts "why are people flipping over Tim Hardaway hating gays" is "it's not much different than saying you hate blacks"?

Wow, your reading comprehension pretty much sucks.

It is his right to say what he thinks, just as well as it is people's right to be outraged over it.

Freedom of speech protects you from being prosecuted for what you say. It doesn't protect you from people thinking you're an idiot.

And oh yeah, it was totally blown out of proportion, but what isn't these days.

The pussies are the ones who see someone say hateful things about a segment of society and do not object.

I hear people say things I disagree with all day long, but I don't call up the news station every time.

Probably because they are amzed that Tim is such an incredable dumbass. He was a paid representitve of the NBA (at least until he displyed his stupidity). The only real consequences of his actions was to be rightly labled a homophobe and an idiot and to lose his job as a Representive of the NBA.

Do you think that's unjust?

To the OP's comments, agreed. There are plenty of ignorant people in the world and the best thing is to try and inform them, not hate them.

Amen.

You're comparing tolerance of who/what a person is to tolerance of bigotry... yeah.

Or perhaps they would actually like people to become more tolerant? :Q

When a celebrity or public figure says something publicly, the response will be public.

Why is everyone flipping out over Tim Hardaway's comments?
Legitimate question. I think the answer is obvious, though. The gay community has a tendency to be on the drama-queen side. So every little thing they perceive to be a slight towards their aberrant behavior sets off a firestorm of a response towards anyone who finds their behavior to be perverse.
Kind of like Al Sharpton and his auto-response every time an African American criminal is cuffed around by some cops. It's always a racial thing, of course.

If a sports star was to go on public radio and say the same things about blacks do you think he would get much of a pat on the back from anyone for "speaking his mind"? He'd be roundly condemned as a narrow minded bigot just as Hardaway was.

Though my underlying suspicion is that you actually agree with him so I'm really wasting my time here.

It's not a matter of education but manners. The guy lost his cool and blurted it out for everyone to hear. There's no undo function on the microphone. The damage is done. Control prevents this.
