Begging for invites or (truly sad) bidding for them on ebay: it's herd mentality folks. A month or two from now you'll wake up and wonder why you cared so much.
I made back everything I spent on my eBay invite and more. I'd say getting paid for threaded, 1GB webmail is a good deal.

Exactly! Although I only have 120GB, your point still comes across loud and clear. It's what I've been doing for some time now.

you have 2 TB storage on your PC?
Yep.
yeah well re-formatting sucks.. and so does traveling away from your machine there and you have to retrieve something...

Anyway, you people are arguing that you have unlimited local storage but the absolute easiest and practical way is remote storage/access with no need to download/backup/store anything... and gmail provides a free 1GB while doing so... that's the bottom line. Who cares about all the hype ... it's practical.

Isn't Google supposed to be putting ads in your email that are based off of what the email is about or something? Did they have to remove this function or what?

Ummm you do know it spys on your system and sends you ads based on keywords and viewing habbits? Some states have made motions to make criminal.

they will have the ads there. non-intrusive. but... i will save judgement for gmail until i use it. so far, the biggest thing is the interface. I use fastmail (i pay for it). it serves a very niche market I think, and I like it. interface is nice and clean. The only drawback is you cannot search it like you can gmail, which I see as a huge plus for some people.

The real question is can google sustain this. And what if everyone decides to use up 1GB of space... there were some small start ups that tried tou beat google to the release... only to have ppl "test out" the 1GB theory, and destroyed their servers. But time will tell...

holy crap imail looks pretty nice (interface wise)... very similar to fastmails interface. I'd use it myself, but I'm rather paranoid... gotta have redundant backup servers and power 🙂

Hm ads IN the email? I thought the ads would be like the Google search engine, it'll be a sidebar on the righthand side with ads.

i have it and I think it sucks. I tried to check one email last night and it timed out 4 times with random errors (this is after trying to login for 10 minutes) and it still never displayed the email. Looks good so far!

The ads are on the right side just like in a google search. They're not IN the email.

Agreed. I didn't really care that much and I stumbled across one. It definitely has a better interface than most webmail, but real e-mail clients still own it.

Ok, they aren't in the emails, got it.

Still doesn't google have something that scans your messages or something and then causes ads to pop-up based on certain keywords? If so, sounds like ad/spy ware to me, which is the last thing I want with my email, thank you.

im not. I don't care for that sh i T. Its stupid.. go jump out a window or sumthing.. end yourself (m4h's famous line)

There are no pop-ups either.

I swear. Some people need to actually read some of the many threads here (yes I'll give the gmail haters that) instead of just assuming they know what's going on. Do a search.
