1. Most people disdain anything that involves reading, thinking, or a long attention span.
2. D&D rulebooks contain references to multicultural mythologies, and the conservative media hates all other cultures and mythologies aside from radical fundamentalist bomb the abortion clinic christian.
3. People fear what they don't understand, and most people "don't read good"

If you possessed a tarrasque, and then while in it's body you made yourself into a lich, would that even work?

Freshman highschool was great because of D&D... we use to go to the local library to play, and on weekends, sleepover at a friend's house and played all weekend. I still miss those days... although these days, i'm sure i'm too old and 'mature' to get into it.

Still, i immensely miss it... i've played a couple of times since freshman, but it's never been the same. There was just some magic to playing with the same friends everyday (and we pretty much learned the game from the beginning together), whereas joining now, you're joining an establish group usually.

Dunno, but I enjoy it.

Just joined a regular group that plays every Sunday. My fiance and I, and 3 other guys (a 30-year-old middle school assistant principal, a 28-year-old pharm drug researcher, and a 32-year-old hairdresser)... it's great fun :D

Beats going to church! :)

Hell yeah they are. Their class structure are very heavily based on D&D (and yes, D&D is based on Tolkien's work... and much of Tolkien's work is based on European mythology).

Behind all the "You hit Ogre for 85 dmg," there is a complex series of mathematics involing your lvl and stats and chance, akin to rolls of the dice in D&D.

I love to play D&D. However, there are some people who play D&D who I would prefer to not hang out with. They take it way too seriously and cant really mix with normal people (they also usually have BO). When we have a session, there is usually lots of good times and beer drinking along with good laughs, and my characters are always crazy.

So yeah, I do nerdy stuff and I dont hide it when someone asks me if I do. Its just that is not the only thing I do and talk about like alot of people I know do (tons of them would hang out at the honors lounge). I love going out with my friends, drinkin at bars, playing pool, watching bands, working out, and tons of other stuff besides the nerdy stuff I do. We used to play it all the time in high school and got stoned and drunk, awesome times.

And do I care what people think about it? Not really. To each his own I say, if you like to listen to gansta rap and drive in your escalade with huge spinners, or if you like being a frat boy thats all you. I enjoy who I am, and what I do.

i played a couple times with a friend, but i have a short attention span and it was slow paced, not my thing.

Re: Columbine and Doom, stupid parents always want something to blame, so they turn to the things their children enjoyed but they never agreed with.

One of my random roomates in college was big on D&D and went to conventions like every week. All the stereotypes were true...
But there was a dude on my fencing team that played but he also cool.

But what if you polymorphed a tarrasque into a rabbit?

I was into it and I never killed or hurt anyone although I never played it because I could never get anyone to play it with me. I hung around non-nerds throughout school so I pretty much had no friends to play it with.
