Why is craigslist so ugly?

I love how minimal things are. It's a very "to the point" type of classifieds site and easy to navigate/load. My concern with the Ebay involvement is that will we see listing fees or sale price fees at some point? I hope not. The "free" nature of Craigslist is why I fing it so appealing.

As for now, the only changes I'd like to see are feedbacks, page views and less spamming.

That's why I don't use Craiglist (beside the fact that there's so many scammers). It's so ugly, looks like crap. Should just have a nice looking free template. I'm sure people would donate their time to spruce it up...

Here is a redesign for Craigslist that was done at a conference for web standards. It is infinately better than the current design I think.
