Why is Bush trying to make his cabnet so diverse?

This may seem like a dumb question, but why is bust so adiment on making his cabnet diverse? While diversity is a good thing most of the time, and when people are equal; I can't help but get the feeling that he's hiring the best person from a minority, instead of looking for the best person overall(which may or may not come from a minority). Am I being thick headed here, or what?

He is doing exactly the same thing he has always done. Selecting the best people, without regard for race. It's not like he's reached out and appointed some obscure, inexperienced bodies for the sake of "diversity". These are VERY solid leaders.

PS: Just ignore Shux. It's clear that he believes that, because an appointee is Black, they cannot possibly be qualified and therefore, MUST be some kind of quota baby.

Russ, NCNE

Now Russ, you know that is nowhere near my beliefs, especially when it comes to Race, Sex and oriantation. This is pure "mending feces" er Fences, a show for the sheep so they can all look up to curious george and say, "By golly he is a Uniter!", Oh, I'm sorry did you buy this calculated and rehearsed appointment? SHEEP

<< Perhaps he's not choosing minorities. Is it possible he's picking qualified people? >>

Ssh! Bober, stop it! You know how achey the Liberals heads' get when you start talking logic instead of feelings!

Despite Democratic claims to the contrary, Bush is trying to fill every position with someone he feels is best suited for the job. He's making a conscious effort to build his administration around solid choices, nothing more, nothing less.

People on both sides have spoken favorably regarding the choices Bush has made so far, even within the liberal Democratically biased media.

I hope you're right Russ. With all the attention put on the diversity issue, I'm finding it harder than I'd like to belive that Bush is picking the best people.🙁

Prodigy^,

He's made his position VERY clear. Read his comments. He keeps arguing against Bush's appointments by claiming that they are quotas.

The ONLY way to argue that position is to believe that the appointees are not qualified for the job.

Russ, NCNE

Russ, to even suggest that I am racist is extremly disturbing and as on target as suggesting your a communist. Give it up, your boy Bush is playing the obvious card and you find that disturbing. Yeah the "Best person for the job" mantra isnt working on your pea brain well enough is it? Go and listen to some Right wing radio, it might help you get back in the groove. 😛

The order that Bush is announcing the positions is politically based. The people all seem to be selected based on qualifications.

If the Republicans do this right, they may drive a stake into the heart of the Democrats. Without the automatic 90% black vote and the very high Hispanic vote, the Democrats will not even be close next election.

ViRGE,

I don't know enough about Rice to comment on her qualifications, but I do know that Bush didn't wake up after the election and say, "hey, let's appoint this Black woman so I can look good". She has been on his team for a long time.

As for Powell, even the most fervent Conservative hating liberal whacko CANNOT argue that he isn't imminently qualified for the job. We, as a country, are damned lucky to have someone of his caliber in the cabinet.

Russ, NCNE

Just like all Liberals, friend Shuxclams has fallen prey to his emotions...and facts be damned...

So far his cabinet not only mirrors America, but those folks are the best America has to offer! Remember that even after 2 years, Clinton still never found such qualified people...hell after 8 he still hasd only got a bunch of morons.

Relax Russ, I think both of those people are well qualified for their respective jobs. I just want to make sure that they're the best people Bush could have picked for the jobs.

FormatC; Blow me......

Tom tom tom, no I have not, I am just aware of the calculated actions that are being put forth.

Russ, Nobody qualifies more for the Job than powell and Rice already worked under daddies administration as a NSA counsul on Russian affairs, these are good choices, just contrived.

Then, you have no argument. You lost this one, find another issue to spout about.

Russ, NCNE

[/b]Your right Russ, I will never be able to teach sheep how to think for themselves. Just a few years ago or even if Gore had won appointments like these would have been called "Quotas" by you and the other right-wing sheep, now its the most qualified, in either case they are generally good choices no matter if they are "quotas or not.

SHUX

Shux,

Nope. Unlike you, I only believe it's filling quotas if the individual selected is unqualified for the position. The political affiliation of the selector is not relevant.

Russ, NCNE

Well lets assume, which would be a mistake, that you are much smarter than the majority of people in this country, does that mean that FormatC understands that? I don't think so. Do you think that the announcements have been political in there order? 1 Black man, 1 white woman, 1 Hispanic man and 1 Black woman so far, did this elude you? Does Bush seem like an even better man for appointing "all these minorities"? Its Politics...thats it, not a move towards "diversity" just an illusion which apparently the sheep are buying. I don't.

<< 1 Black man, 1 white woman, 1 Hispanic man and 1 Black woman >>

Yeah, I suppose you're right. It should've been 1 Rich White Guy, 1 White Rich Male, 1 Well Off Caucasion Male, 1 Caucasion Rich Guy. That'd been more like it. Right?
