Why in the world do people use steak sauce?

I like steak sauce, and I'm a trained chef. It depends on how the steak was prepared.

Some years back people got this snobby notion that using a condiment on steak was low class. NOT AT ALL. I also like horseradish with steak. Blue cheese dressing is another very good choice.

It's like saying people use mustard and catsup on hamburgers to kill the taste. Makes no sense. Eat what you like.

If it's poor steak, or a poor cut, a little bit of A1 makes it taste great.

If it's a great cut, or a great steak...no sauce needed.

I usually marinate a london broil in a1 and a little bit of rib rub, and then pound the living crap out of it. It may not be the best cut, but for $10 for 2 lbs, I'm not complaining. I think it tastes so bad comparably to a fine filet that I've become a customed to this summer, that my pallet puts it in another catagory of ass meat (not literally) therefore I can consume it with sauce.
What are you marinating with? How are you serving it, and cut in what manner?

The flavour of beef has changed a lot in the last 30 years. Mostly due to the removal of fat from it, which has turned most beef into a near flavourless mass. Occasionally I'll end up with a decent peice of beef on my plate, but most of the time I'd rather have pork or chicken. All those pail in comparison to Venison. Caribou, and other wild meats though.

That's the difference between grass-fed and corn-fed for you.

what wiki has to say about this;

"Many steak lovers refuse to use steak sauce as they claim it ruins the flavor of the meat. Often, adding steak sauce is seen as a way to mask the flavor of inferior steak. Likewise, asking for A1 or other commercial steak sauces at high-end restaurants is seen as crass and an indication of lack of sophistication."

I don't always subscribe to what wiki says but in this case I might have to

😀

I love A1 sauce, a just a little bit on the steak goes a long ways and makes everything so much better.

I want some steak now 🙁

My ex-girlfriend apparently 'loved' steak, but then she'd dip each piece in ketchup...😕
I tend to use salt instead of sauces, as in, if the steak isn't that great, add some salt. If it's terrible, add mo' salt 😀 Oh my arteries.

Wow a lot of people are full of sh!t 🙂
Who cares what people put on their food as long as they enjoy it. This may come as a surprise to some, but not everyone has the same palate as you.

Again, I've worked in those situations. It is not true at all. It's something that popped into the culture by "self proclaimed" experts.
