I never heard of oingo-boingo .. so i guess I stand corrected.

Henry Rollins can go fvck himself:

(Henry Rollins of Black Flag)

WHITE MINORITY

We're gonna be a white minority
We won't listen to the majority
We're gonna feel inferiority
We're gonna be white minority

White pride
You're an American
I'm gonna hide
Anywhere I can

Gonna be a white minority
We don't believe there's a possibility
Well you just wait and see
We're gonna be white minority

White pride
You're an American
White pride
Anywhere I can?

Gonna be a white minority
There's gonna be large cavity
Within my new territory
We're all gonna die

I haven't expressed a viewpoint yet have I?

Go ahead and jump to conclusions.

Uh, you said henry rollins can go fvck himself and then gave that as what appears to be a supporting argument for why he should go fvck himself. If there's no relation of the lyrics to your comment, why did you post them?

I don't think he was jumping to conclusions. I think he was referring to the fact that you said "Henry Rollins can go fvck himself".

Let me rephrase

Call Henry Rollins a sellout and he'll rearrange your face

Henry Rollins can go fvck himself.

So you are saying that, because I listen to punk rock, I am worse person that I would have been if I hadn't listened to it?

you may enjoy punk because "the lyrics are easy to understand" but all that means is the songwriter is too stupid to come up with something thought-provoking without a 5 year-old being able to understand it.

and sorry, but i can't stand to a band playing the same chord progression over and over again, then changing it slightly for a chorus or bridge.

give me Metallica, Hendrix, Zeppelin. Take your punk elsewhere.

that's a bunch of crap. download anything by a band called "A Fall Farewell" and try saying that to me. they are "hardcore" but they all come from punk influences (and metal influences).

the reason i dont like these kinds of threads is because theres so many different kinds of 'sub genres' of punk it makes it difficult to understand which one people are talking about. franky i dont know all of the genres, nore do i care because i will listen to any kind of music that is good to me, whether it be 'punk', metal, pop, or classical.

early punk bands were all about giving a message through lyrics. the point wasnt that they couldnt play the instruments. the point was that anyone that had a message could do it.

there are still a few of these "punk" bands now... anti flag etc... but now there are all these pop punk bands, emo, hardcore, "screamo" whatever the hell that is. some people call them punk, some people dont. the reason i do is because they were influenced by bands like the sex pistols and early punk bands (or at least influenced by bands that were influenced by earlier bands). that's why it's dumb to generalize something with 'punk' music.

anyway, you're right. a lot of punk bands are all about 3/4 chord progressions. but what the hell do you think they play pop music? michelle branch songs are (mostly) 4 chords, or started from a 4 chord progression. most britney spear, nsync, etc. songs are all about a 4 chord progression in the major scale. heck, country songs are like that to.

there are technical "punk" bands out there. but i guess you wouldnt call them "punk" because they wont sound like the screeching weasels. try 'a static lullaby's new album "and dont forget to breath" (or download lip gloss and let down), or 'curl up and die'.

Do you ever read any books that aren't ultra-complex? Just because something isn't deep doesn't mean its not good. There isn't anything deep about a game of quake, but its damn good entertainment. I don't always want to try and decipher what the artist meant, sometimes I just want to have a good time.

There are alot of music elitists in here, complex lyrics or music doesn't make it good.

can you decipher these lyrics?

Sing me a song, you're a singer
Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The Devil is never a maker
The less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell, oh well

The lover of life's not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell
I can tell, fool, fool!

Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
For every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
And it's on and on, on and on and on....

They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It's Heaven and Hell, oh no!Fool, fool!
You've got to bleed for the dancer!
Fool, fool!Look for the answer!
Fool, fool, fool!

thats right. you can. they're by some group black sabbath. must mean they suck.

ok notfred, here's a tool song i think even you, with your lyrical impairment, can both understand and appreciate, at least on it's surface level (like all tool songs, there are multiple levels to this one, and again, some knowledge of psychology helps lots).

"Hooker with a Penis"

I met a boy
wearing Vans, 501s,
and a dope beastie-tee,
nipple rings,
and new tattoos
that claimed that he was OGT,
from '92, the first EP.
and in between sips of coke
he told me that he thought we were sellin' out,
layin' down, suckin' up to the man.
Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger you should know that I'm the man,
and if I'm the man, then you're the man,
and he's the man as well
so you can point that f!ckin' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you, Dumb f!ck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip sh!t, and you bought one.
So I've got some Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger You should know that I'm the man.
If I'm the f!ckin' man then you're the f!ckin' man as well,
So you can Point that f!ckin' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you, Dumb f!ck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip sh!t, And you bought one.
All you read and Wear or see and Hear on TV
Is a product Begging for your Fatass dirty Dollar So ...
Shut up and Buy my new record
Send more money
F!ck you, buddy.

for the person who mentioned "third eye," if you take in context of the theme of the album, it's about self realization, and, since tool are big jungians, that means it's about discovering where you touch god. kind of ironic for a band people call "satanic." actually, hooker with a penis has some jungian themes about god as well.

Yeah, that must be it.

Your cunning insight has ripped right through everything I believe and I have no retort.

You are a debate genius. HAIL THE KING OF INSIGHT!! HAIL HAIL!!

Explain to me how punk music is a bad influence on kids. Explain how telling people to think for themselves instead of taking what is fed them on a daily basis makes someone "worse".

Edit: And I noticed you glanced right past my direct question to you earlier in this thread:

So you are saying that, because I listen to punk rock, I am worse person that I would have been if I hadn't listened to it?

and you think we're idiots? *sigh*

but i guess i can agree with you. black people are minorities and there's always something wrong with white america that they're mad about. thats why i dont let my friends and sisters hang out with black people anymore because they're all bad influences.
