Yeah, that must be it.

Your cunning insight has ripped right through everything I believe and I have no retort.

You are a debate genius. HAIL THE KING OF INSIGHT!! HAIL HAIL!!

Explain to me how punk music is a bad influence on kids. Explain how telling people to think for themselves instead of taking what is fed them on a daily basis makes someone "worse".

Edit: And I noticed you glanced right past my direct question to you earlier in this thread:

So you are saying that, because I listen to punk rock, I am worse person that I would have been if I hadn't listened to it?

two words....MOSH PIT...that's all that crap is to kids...it's destructive

and thank you for crowning me, it's about time.

Wow, so the entire basis of your arguement is that a mosh pit is bad for kids? What if there is a kid out there that listens to the music but has never been to a show or in a mosh pit? Does that still make the music destructive?

So, I guess that means just about every form of music, outside of bubblegum pop, is bad for kids too. Last time I checked, just about every live show that is GA or has a floor had SOME sort of mosh pit.

Have you ever been to a punk show?

i think moshing of all forms is wrong and i think a lot of kids just go to mosh and don't give a crap about your blessed poo music. every concert i've been to has been mosh free and i'm talking big names like U2, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Phish...so your suggestion that moshing is prevalent in most music is bunk. moshing is only necessary because the music sucks so much that there's nothing better to do than beat people up.

Because I listen to punk rock, am I a "worse" person that I would have been if I hadn't listened to it?

What if there is a kid out there that listens to the music but has never been to a show or in a mosh pit? Does that still make the music destructive?

Maybe some idiots go to shows to mosh, but I am not one of them. I certainly wouldn't consider those people fans of a specific genre of music, but just idiots. I have seen moshing at a Juliana Hatfield show. Does that make her music destructive?

ignorance is bliss. if you've ever been to a punk show you'd know that if your music is crap, no one will be moshing.

i think a lot of kids just go to mosh and don't give a crap about your blessed poo music.

just because "you think" doesnt mean it's true.

prove it

you prove it for me every time you post

so my posts prove that i am a worse person for listening to punk? i don't see how that is possible, since i was listening to punk before i even came to this website. got logic? apparently not.

So you make up your own lyrics to songs? That just seems funny to me. No offense meant. :D

early punk bands were all about giving a message through lyrics. the point wasnt that they couldnt play the instruments. the point was that anyone that had a message could do it.
Sorta like the 60's beatniks and today's 'street' poets, or whatever they call it. Whether or not the message made an ounce of sense or was worth listening to is another matter. Put "My poop smells bad" to music and you've got 'a message'. Well, that isn't filled with enough anger or follow the anti-authority/conformity philosophy. More like:

My poop smells bad
but why should I not like
the smell of my own poop?
because that's what society tells you

F-ck society, f-ck its rules
I will like the smell of my own poop
I don't care, I don't care
Poop is great, watch me smell it

See, that took me about seven seconds, and it has all the requisite hallmarks of a punk song. lol!
Funny. Was I trendy 14 years ago when I got into punk?

Was that the trend in 1989?
1985 here! This was in the heart of Michigan, not Southern California or Seattle.

But he does have a point, though I'm sure he doesn't realize it. Its all trendy to someone. That it may be 'trendy' to only 5% of the public vs. 95% doesn't make it 'non-trendy'. It makes it atypical. Do you not 'conform' to the 'non-conformist' mantra? Of course!

To tell you the truth, I would have NEVER got into punk or skating if it hadn't been for peer pressure. The music absolutely stinks like a sewer, the message is stupid, the motives behind the message highly suspect, the subculture is replete with criminal and misfit and schizophrenic mentality. I met far more hoodlums and racists and violent felons and people who should be confined to a mental hospital for the rest of their lives in punk's subculture than any where else. The girls are ugly with God-awful clothes and makeup that is fit only for Halloween. But a couple friends started to listen to some punk bands, so I went along with them. It was awful noise - horrible!

Sorta like smoking your first cigarette, its horrible, but you don't admit its horrible because you're trying to fit in. Thank goodness that phase didn't last long. I couldn't imagine being a 31 year-old 'punk rocker', and there are plenty!

What the heck is wrong with a good ol mosh pit??? I love moshing, That's the only reason I go to a live show. Sure it can be dangerous, if you don't watch out, but comeon man, what's wrong with some good ol fashion asskickin? If you can't physically take it, don't get into it.

none taken :) I listen to music to be entertained. Often times it's more entertaining to make up my own lyrics (especially when the singer is screaming/mumbling andf I can't make out the words anyway)

19 years already and still selling out massive shows? which one of your poo bands has done that. you picked a really bad example. phish isn't mainstream, yet they have a huge following, which has similarities to your poo bands which you say the best is underground and not mainstream which may very well be, i'll never know or care to know. but check your facts before you make stupid statements. i will now check my own facts so as not to be a hypocrite any more than i am.

Try Bad Religion. Ever heard of them? They've only been together and putting out records for 23 years. Selling out shows everywhere they go and have a huge following. Good job on checking your facts though.

Oh, and Phish sucks ass. Hippie music sucks ass. See, I can generalize about bands and music that I don't like too. At least I have LISTENED to Phish and determined for myself that they suck, instead of just ranting about how much they do without having a shred of knowledge about what I was talking about.

Is Martha and the Muffins - Echo Beach punk? My friend told me to listen to that song, I thought it sucked :p Some of the other songs she recommends suck too. ( IMO ) I think it's casue she likes punk and I don't. But im not into the music scene so I dunno, if Echo beach would qualify as "punk".
