Why Hillary would be a bad VP choice for Obama

After watching the latest Dem debate, I was amazed that some people would even consider that Hillary would make a good VP choice for Obama. I am convinced she would be a terrible choice. Choosing her would give validation to Obama's critics that "experience" is a necessary and critical deficit to his campaign. Second, if nothing else, the Clintons are reviled by the Right and her presence will motivate Republicans to the polls even with a controversial and lackluster Republican candidate like McCain.

A good choice? Hard to say, but lately I have been toying with the idea that Al Gore would be a decent choice -- as ridiculous as that may at first sound. He has evolved in recent years from a "wooden" political figure into a much respected and celebrated icon. Whether or not he would again accept is unknown, but it is an interesting speculation.

They clearly hate each other. That aspect in and of itself should tell anyone that the prospect of them working together is utterly rediculous.

But Obama is the candidate of change and the man who will bring us together as a nation.

If he can?t work with someone who aggress with him on 99% of the issues how will he ever work with people who agree with him on less than half of the issues?

Al Gore's done with politics, but even if he weren't, do you think he's really want to be VP again for another 4-8 years after coming so close to being Prez?

Anyway, I don't think that anyone who has seriously thought about it really believed Hillary would be good choice as VP. I don't think Obama would offer the VP to her and I don't think she'd accept if he did. It's a Hill and Bill package and Obama wouldn't want to deal with Bill.

He does need a known person on the ticket just so they both aren't relatively unfamiliar people. Richardson would be a decent choice.

Yeah, Gore has vindicated himself fairly well and his current life probably pays a whole lot more with less stress than VP.

Richardson would be a good choice.

Hillary as VP would only happen if she forced it.

but why would she want the job? I can't see her wanting to be overshadowed by a charismatic male for another 8 years of her life, after which she'd be too old to run for president, and it's bit of a downgrade to go from being a powerful senator to ceremonial VP.

I am amazed that this subject is brought up as often as it is.

Obama cannot choose Hillary as his running mate. That would be crazy. You choose a running mate to appeal to the part of the electorate that you don't currently appeal to. You also don't choose one with huge built-in negatives. Barack Obama needs someone who represents stability to help woo the moderate independents. That's exactly why Kennedy chose Johnson.

Let Obama choose Hillary, and you're just asking to lose the election.

SHe would be terrible. Dems already will vote for Obama and to get Hillary it will do nothing but repel some who hate her. She is done in this race and will serve nothing in the office.

yes, many Independents that support Obama over Clinton would sit out or flock to a 3rd party like Bloomberg if Clinton was the VP. i don't believe Obama would make that mistake

no, that would turn off Independents just as much or more than Clinton

too many people hate the Clintons and manbearpig , to stay on message/be credible, Obama has to get someone that isn't a Washington insider/career politician/tied to lobbyists

A good choice for running mate: John Edwards

He is from the South, and that is needed in any Presidential Election, if they want to win.

Had Wesley Clark not endorsed and backed Hillary he would be an excellent choice as Obama's VP. A Rhodes Scholar, decorate war veteran, 4 star general he would easily counteract McCain. Even outrank him!!

I like edwards as well but I think the lack of exp. from both of them would hurt.

But I see Obama pickign a older white guy to level out the ticket.

crap! you are right, Obama gets to pick, not us

so far, the way his campaign has been run, flawlessly, it'll be someone good, at least to Democrats.
as an Independent, I hope it is also someone non-Democrats will appreciate

that's what Kerry thought.

not only did he fail to make an impact in the south, there are deep feelings within the democratic party that he deliberately did poorly to bolster his own chances in 2008.

Yes, I have also lived through a number of End of the Worlds.

Clinton would help get out the female vote, which could be enough to overcome the manufactured right-wing hatred of HC, a hatred that seems to be about as reasonable as Rush's behavior concerning McCain-Romney. Vilifying HC was tactically done to derail any effort at serious health care reform, as well as to try to undermine Bill's presidency. People can allow this nonsense to dominate the political arena or people can ignore it for the red herring it is. I am unafraid of a vast anti-HC conservative groundswell. It's a tempest in a teapot.

Two words: Vince Foster 😉

Wrestling with clinical depression, Foster was prescribed the mild sleeping aid/anti-anxiety pill Trazodone over the phone by his doctor, though he only had taken a few before he died. The next day, Foster was found dead in Fort Marcy Park, a federal park in Virginia. He was found with a gun in his hand and gunshot residue on that hand. An autopsy determined that he was shot in the mouth and no other wounds were found on his body. A suicide note of sorts, actually a draft of a resignation letter, was found torn into 27 pieces in his briefcase, a list of complaints specifically including, "The WSJ editors lie without consequence"[13] and lamenting, "I was not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life in Washington. Here ruining people is considered sport."

There have been three official investigations into Foster's death, all of which concluded that he committed suicide.[15]
The first was by the United States Park Police in 1993, in whose jurisdiction the original investigation fell. Due to Foster's position in the White House, the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation. Investigations by a coroner and Independent Counsel Robert B. Fiske, in a 58-page report released in 1994, also concluded that Foster had committed suicide.[10] Conspiracy theories of a cover-up still persisted. After a three-year investigation, Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth Starr[16][17] released a report in 1997 also concluding that the death was a suicide.[10]

In addition, two investigations by the U.S. Congress also found that Foster committed suicide.[10]

Point being?

I don't understand why anyone thinks that would be a "dream ticket". You'd have to be really naive/stupid to believe that. Wes Clark or Joe Biden would make more sense.
