Make sure you are also breathing correctly during lifting

This is most likely his problem - it's best to take deep breathes, hold, then release.

take a deep breath while returning the weight, hold, and release throughout the entire exertion, correct?

I had the EXACT thing happen about 2-3 months ago. They are incredibly painful and are called Exertion Headaches.

That's a breif description of what they are, but there is alot more out there. If they are at a 'migraine' pain level (if you have ever had one) - I suggest going to the doctor or seeing a neurologist. After consulting my neurologist, he figured that they would not have any adverse effect, but he still gave me an MRI to rule out an anurism, then put me on anti-inflammatories. I took them the first month 30 minutes before I exercised. After that, I've been fine.

Wow, EXACTLY like my story.

Yeah, do all of the breathing exercises you want, but if you have worked out for a long period of time (like a couple of years or so) and this is happening NOW - it's best just to get checked out. I didn't go in for a month, and that was about the dumbest thing I could have done, becuause they would have given me the indomethacin (sp) right away.

It took about 2 months for them to go away after I went in. If it's not serious, it just goes away by itself if you 'tough it out'.. But that's easier said than done. I had them so bad my left eye would blur slightly.

Yes, that's about it. Just continue to follow through like that and breathe slowly - keep a nice slow pace during your workout and if all else fails, just see a doctor.

If you really want to improve your breathing and you find out that everything's okay, yoga may be a really good thing for you.

Informative post by Nikamichi? I would have expected a blank post or something. 😉 😛

well, after a few more times of going and getting headaches, I went to the doctor...

They gave me an MRI (still waiting on results), and some medicine (indomethacin). It seemed to work quite well (had a mild headache after lifting, but never throbbing)
