Found an old Bob Dylan record in my parents record collection tonight and decided what the heck. Why has it taken me so long? He's great.

He is a great songwriter but a horrible vocalist, best to listen to cover versions of his songs.

False.

He wrote some great songs but his performances live are terrible. I thought I'd go see him perform since he was a legend and all, man what a mistake, worse show I've ever seen. It was horrible, so bad that I felt embarrassed for him.

I enjoy him. His vocals do suck, but he is such a great songwriter that its ok he can't sing.

his vocals are actually intentional. for his songs, is vocals are perfect.

He actually has a damn fine voice, it's simply an aesthetic choice that he sings the way he does.

take into account the times he lived in and you start to really appreciate his lyrics.

and interestingly, they seem appropriate especially today.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Agreed here. He is a great song writer, but live performances are not his forte.

However that doesn't mean PaulNEPats has any taste whatsoever.

His voice is roughly the same sound you hear when you toss a dog, a badger, six cats and a pygmy rabbit in a burlap sack and swing it above your head. Great songwriter though.

I don't know about you, but I think that would sound awesome.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

SNAPPPPPP

yeah, like that's a new one. Zin should have his own comedy show, the man is hilarious!

I have my moments :p

for the record, I've seen Dylan live 2x, and I actually love him live. Saw him with Paul Simon, and with Phil Lesh. Great shows all around. I think his age, in a way, enhances his songs. Sure, he's not the typical type of live performer, but Dylan's career has always been atypical.

Even his earliest fans who abandoned him when he went electric are poseurs, as everything he is has always gone against the stream, whether or not it's what people have assumed him to be...
