Why hasn't anyone invented the "Meal In A Pill" yet?

I don't think it would ever work.

There have been tests that show that there is a very large psychological aspect to eating. In rats, even if the required food/nutrients was directly placed into the stomache, the rats still starved to death.

Well, you can put the hunger pain supressant into the pill as well.

1. Eating food with your teeth is more enjoyable/physically satisfying than swallowing a pill. ( Star Trek Episode + Stefan's post).

what we need in the foods is calories, not something like hunger depressants, because that would kill you anyways, because you might not be getting enough energy

It'd have to be one honkin' pill to contain ~700 calories(3 a day?). I don't think we've come up with any substance that is quite THAT calorically dense...

There ya go. It's impossible.

How about a gallon of milk that will fit in a pint bottle? I think not.

the size of the food doesnt necessarily mean it is very high/low in calories. what about broccoli? case in point.
