Didn't go to prom, didn't care much anyway. I'm happily married and long out of high school, so it's water under the bridge now....

Dress - $250
Shoe - $100
prefume - $60
salon - $70
limo - $50
admission - $90

dream of showing your "O-face" but get refused & dumped - priceless !

Almost 20 million students will attend proms this year, with the average 17-year-old spending $638 , or more than $1,200 per couple, according to research by Conde Nast, which publishes Your Prom and Modern Bride magazine.

Proms are a huge business, estimated to bring in $2.7 billion in revenue for purveyors of dresses, shoes, lingerie , cameras, film, beauty supplies and salon services. Teens also rent limousines and hotel rooms and plan after-prom parties requiring beach gear and swimsuits.

dude, what does lingerie have to do with prom & hotel room ? <- hint hint... :D

thats loaded. you won't find guys spending $350 on something to wear and $60 on something to make you smell nice. plus, who puts the whole bottle of perfume on at once? i bet that bottle lasts a year.

my daughter's prom last year.. her dress was ~150. we took it back to get it hemmed middle of the next week (had to buy the shoes before we could get it hemmed), it was on sale for 99. I returned it, opened an account at the store (20% off first purchase and free alterations), bought it again, charged it, ~80.00 hemmed. yay! has been worn 2x more already = ~27 now.

shoes = 70 (the savings on the initial price of the dress covered the shoes), but a lot more use out of the shoes than the dress. so the shoes are down to 5 bucks or less/use now..

she did her own hair/nails/makeup = ~20 for hair doodads and goosand earrings.. less than that probably..

they had dinner at a friend's house = 0

tickets = 50 <- he paid

photos = 40 <- she paid

perfume = already had that

transportation = his mom's car = 0

after prom = pool party next door then overnight/breakfast at same friend as dinner.. I made snacks for the pool party = ~ 20ish

oh.. flowers.. ~18 or so..

so.. at worst, 250.. and grandma paid for the dress (100).. so.. once in a lifetime, she had fun.. not too bad.

why jimmyhaha is gay...
Dress/tux (aka monkey suit) - $250... what are you gonna buy the tux?
Shoe - $100... what guy spends $100 for a pair of shoes he is gonna wear once?
prefume/makeup - $60... if you wear perfume and makeup then see the first line.
salon - $70... what guy spends $70 on his hair? I would say $40 max and thats if you get it streaked
limo - $50... hey you gotta impress the babes so $50 isn't a big deal.
admission - $90... well you kinda have to pay the admission fee, but $90 seems a little steep...
just realised you are not a high school kid...

I spent maybe $300 junior year and $200 senior year. It was well worth it... I didn't like high school, but I am glad I went.

I spent like a little under $200 and it was waaaaay overrated. But that's 20/20 hindsight. I think I had a really good time back then.
then again, if i were to come face to face with myself from back then, i'd probably have to kick my ass.

I spent around 500 on my g/f's one. I didn't want to go to mine. For me it was a waste of money so I didn't go. But it meant a lot to her so I went to hers. Well worth it if you're taking someone you love. :)

WTF are you smoking...I wasn't in high school THAT long ago and there's no way anything costed that much. $100 bux tops for a tux, shoes included. Dinner is generally $50-$75 depending. Tickets were never anywhere close to that much. And a limo? lol

Jr. Prom couples was $80 and it was just held in this "tent" thing on the football field. Waste of money in my opinion. Thank god my class has like no money so Prom will probably be held in the gym or something so it will cost like $10 :D

I'd spend at max $250 on prom though.

I don't get it. Perhaps you can clarify.

Going to prom is gay because:

1) It costs $620?
2) It costs $620 and you don't get laid?
3) It costs $620, you don't get laid, and rather than dance, you stand around with all the other guys in tuxes -- who also can't dance -- whining about how this is the biggest waste of your time that you've ever experienced?
4) All of the above?
5) You prefer to dance with guys?

ive found that most people in my experience that complain about prom being lame, "gay", waste of time, etc.. are those who either dont have many friends, or cant get a date for prom

Wow, some expensive proms!

My Senior Ball's (prom...) tickets will be $5 each! :) And we're having it at a really nice place - a very nice art museum actually - our current senior class president did fund raising like mad. Our class president for the previous 3 years did jack sh!t.

Tickets: $10 for a couple
Rented my tux today: $85 (already have nice black shoes for it)
Limo: $92 for a couple + $15 tip
Dinner: $50 for a couple (very elegant restaurant looking out on a lake)

So my prom is quite reasonable in price...relatively speaking.
