http://www.boston.com/dailynews/141/region/Teens_spending_billions_on_hig:.shtml

Dress/tux (aka monkey suit) - $250
Shoe - $100
prefume/makeup - $60
salon - $70
limo - $50
admission - $90

Result :

1. dream of showing your "O-face" but get refused & dumped - priceless !

2. showing your "O-face" but forget the condom & get STD afterwards - priceless !

3. bring the condom but don't know how to use it - priceless !

Almost 20 million students will attend proms this year, with the average 17-year-old spending $638 , or more than $1,200 per couple, according to research by Conde Nast, which publishes Your Prom and Modern Bride magazine.

Proms are a huge business, estimated to bring in $2.7 billion in revenue for purveyors of dresses, shoes, lingerie , cameras, film, beauty supplies and salon services. Teens also rent limousines and hotel rooms and plan after-prom parties requiring beach gear and swimsuits.

dude, what does lingerie & hotel room have to do with prom ? <- hint hint... :D

P.S. I am not a HS kid, just amazed those kid spent on proms these days..

I think tickets for me and my date were like $50 or so...we ate at Olive Garden for ~$30 and my tux was something like $75.

Not bad if you ask me.

EDIT: of course this was 7 years ago.

How much me and my friends spent on prom:

$20 apiece for good liquor
$10 pizza
$5 blockbuster movies

And I still got laid that night :D
The woman decided she didn't want to go which got me off the hook

Holy sh!t, that's a lot of cash. Mine is 45. Add limo, tux, and food, and the bill runs in the mid 200's. And there is no way in hell I'm getting laid, at least not with the girl I'm taking. Ah well, at least I'll have gone to one prom. Last year, me and one of my buddies went to an Arena Football 2 game on our prom day because, well, we were giant nerds. Sorta pathetic, really.

$85 dollar tux
$50 tickets (both)
$60 prictures (friggin rip off)
$40 dinner (friend cooked for us, best danm dinner I have had in a while.)

Wasn't so bad this year. Last year we went to a fancy resturante, and got a limo at $90 a couple. Bah.

Sounds like jimmyhaha didn't get a date.
nothing wrong with 17-year-olds bolstering the local economy, either.

I went to prom with a chubby mormon girl...that wasn't a good experience. Biggest waste of $120 ever.

One of the benefits of not actually 'dating' the girl you are bringing. ;)

what i meant was, SO many people did that back in my high school!

oh...hehe. a lot of the people in my high school went to the 'fancy' places, you know...$25 for crappy steak just because the resturant has been there for 40 years.

why going to prom is gay....
The fact you spend the night with a girl that you probably like makes it homosexual?...

Prom was last week, i spent:
$100 tux
$120 bids (myne and hers)
$40 dinner (myne and hers)
$25 pictures
$25 corsage
$11 carwash (nobody wanted a limo, few people got one at our school)

It's hard justifying the amount you're spending if you're going with a "compromise date" and/or you're not gettin' any after prom. :p
