I think what I meant to say was that I did not have any luck finding useful benchmarks on the 7800GT, not 7800GTX, and I would like to see the links to some benchmarks featuring the 7800GT.

AA still makes a big difference even at high resolutions. I run most games 18 months or older at 1856x1392 with 6xAA.

Actually BFG downgrades, he got rid of his 6800U for a X800XL.
The card is faster than a 6800U in certain situations.

You mean when the planets are aligned a certain way and the moon is a waxing gibbous?
I'm just kidding. Would appreciate it if you could show us these certain situations. If you don't mind that is.

If a monitor can't go above 1600x1200 chances are any current tier 1 or tier 2 card is wasted on it. Or to put it another way if you can't do high resolutions you're wasting your time with these cards.

werd. long live CRT! :D

Here's a little side step...Do any of the 7800GTXs support DDL? And if so, is it supported in an SLI configuration? God damn it, I want an Apple 30" but I don't want to buy a freakin' $1800 workstation card that sucks at games. :( 2560x1600 would look REALLY sweet and I think a 7800GTX SLI setup should work just fine at that res.

Yep, and I just got a $345 7800GT, which also has DDL :D

And I ended up going from a x800xl to a 6800U. Only app that felt any different was Doom3, the main differnce being I unloaded the 6800U for $400 and paid $220 for the X800XL :p

I don't disagree that the X850XT is a bad card, but it's just a slightly faster X800XT, and it doesn't compete with the 7800GT almost in way shape or form except the odd game title that favours ATi.

So I have to ask... Why but ATi right now? It's just not worth it.

Are you guys sure ? <Kensai & blckgrffn> Initially they reported that the 7800GTX supported DDL, but then Anandtech said it was capable, but it wasn't implemented on the card he got (I believe that was the situation). And my next question, if it supports DDL, does it support it through SLI?

Alright, it looks like I got some confirmation. It does look like the 30" Apple display works perfect with a 7800GTX! I'll have to post some pics when I get my setup! I'm pretty excited! I'm gonna have to make all the Dell 2405 owners look like they just purchased a 17" monitor. :)

Give me your best benchmark that shows the x800XL being faster in HL2 than a 6800U. Please. I don't doubt you, but would like to see.

Op deserves to be shot. I may be an ATI fan, but this is no comparison. I jumped for the 7800GT too. UT2k4 is the most CPU dependent game in benchmarks done today and you linked to a POS like that. If an X850XT is the same price, then you should get the 7800 cuz its FASTER... duh. How simple is that.

Why get an Athlon 3500+ when you can get a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz for the same price? Yea.. nice comparison.

I just got a 2005fpw and I think it's huge, I love it!

Hey I have a 2.8 w/ HT :D It works great.
Yea if you are PCI-E I really see no reason to go ATI atm. I had no choice since I was AGP and I couldn't play most of my games without significant lag. The guy is probably either 1) a fanboy or 2) having buyer's remorse.

Okay @$$. The topic was made before the 7800GT was released. Since the 7800GT far outperforms what I expected, that point is clearly invalid.

Thanks for nothing!

How could I have buyers remorse when I have neither a 7800GT nor X850XTPE? Get your act together.

You can browse selected benchmarks for UT2004, Far Cry, Painkiller and HL2 here.

Additionally MOHPA isn't benchmarked but my own gameplay testing shows the X800 XL runs the game faster at 1600x1200 than the 6800U did at 1280x960.

Granted, the 6800U is the faster card overall but my X800 XL still does well and it's passively cooled so it's completely silent when gaming, unlike the jet-engined 6800U. I'll gladly give up a bit of performance for silence.

You know, im definitely thinking that something is wrong in the first 4 out of 6 benchmarks the 6600GT ties the 6800U. Seems CPU limited to me until the final 2 benchmarks on the second link in which case SLI begins to pull away.

You'd get it for $400 because it is better than the x850 (or at least will be in next gen if it isn't now) and it has shader model 3, more pipelines, sli capabilities (which i quess is why it's better, especially for next gen)

I heard you can get the 7800gt for like $330 at dell now or something
