Moderate drinkers evidently exercise more than non-drinkers Question is: Were they lying in response to the gov. health survey? Just because you say you hit the gym or whatever, does not make it a fact. These "studies" all fail.
Moderate drinkers probably includes a huge segment of the mid-twenties who socialize heavily at bars and clubs. I see plenty of "bros" and people who are in shape in those venues. They certainly don't drink their way into muscle bound frames and thin bodies.
To them, appearance is paramount in attracting potential partners because it's the first thing judged about you in those settings. So no, I don't find it that hard to believe that a fair amount of the drinking population actually engages in regular fitness activities.
