Why do we have labels on anything?

There is no difference in a pair of shoes made in china and a pair made in mexico. So why label them?

Surely putting labels on products made in china will make people think before supporting a communist government?

I mean like when a company who doesn't use GMO begins to advertise, and consumers educate themselves on any sort of perceived risks of using GMOs, and begin to buy that product.

Then when GMO producers begin to advertise that they DON'T use GMO in order to falsely gain market share, get caught by educated and concerned consumers. The word gets out, and their advertising loses all traction.

You don't need laws to ban the sale of snake oil or any similarly false claims, you just need time.

Let the market do its work, instead of sending lots of money to politicians so concerned with our well-being that they are willing to launch an agency aimed solely at verifying manufacturer's claims. Let the market work.

For around every million spent in advertising bought about 1 percent of the vote.

In the end, the people were swayed by advertising.

Just like people were conned into approving the income tax, voters are easily swayed.

Made in (insert country) labels are a requirement because of import/export laws and have nothing to do with consumer information. That is a side benefit to a consumer that is conscious about where the products are coming from. Its comparison to this topic is irrelevant.

Now, if manufacturers want to choose to put a label on their product letting a consumer know something, that is up to them. They may do so because they think it will get them an extra bit of marketing and convince a consumer to purchase their produce. That's fine, but again, that isn't what you are talking about. You want to require a label that has no information with regards to the utility of said product. It is strictly there for appeasement, nothing else. There is zero reason to make that label a requirement. If manufactures want to divulge that information for whatever reason, that is up to them, but to require that is an overreach of authority and also harmful to that industry due to cost reasons.

This would have been nothing more than a complete waste of money as knowing this information changes nothing about the content of the food or its effect on you.

Potato chips cooked in GMO corn oil are no more harmful than ones that are cooked in non GMO corn oil. Hell the fact that a person eating potato chips is worried about adverse effects of their ingredients or what they are cooked in is completely fucking laughable.

Currently ingredients are listed on all foods. No mention of where they come from. Why? Because it doesn't change anything. There is nothing significant about where those ingredients come from with respect to the nutritional value or health concerns for that food.

Hell a tomato on the east coast and a tomato on the west coast will have different levels of vitamins and minerals. It does matter 😛

Each kernel of corn should be tracked via RFID. It's my right as a consumer to scan a box of cereal and know which field it was grown in. I don't want any corn grown by some right winger with his corporate frankenseed. I want good old fashioned liberal corn.
