Only time I dont use mine is if I am in a turn lane. I think it should be obvious to most people if I am in a turn lane, then I am going to be turning.

if someone cuts me off but flicked their signal even for a second, I wouldn't be as pissed ... versus a guy who just decided the lane was his to take without courtesy. :|

Even when I was on a cellphone, I used my turn signals.

I always use signals.. I am a conscious signal'er though, and if there is not a soul on the road at like 3-4 AM, then sometimes I don't.

I always use mine, doesn't matter if there's 100 cars around me or none at all.. and I'm so sick and tired of these morons at stop signs or infront of me at lights NOT using theirs, these are the ignorant jerkoffs on their cell phones not caring about the drivers around them who cause the most accidents and I'm still amazed that I've been able to avoid getting into a car accident in Philly after all this time, maybe it's because I use my turn signals?

Yea, except guess what, it isn't always freaking marked to oncoming traffic that you are in an effing turn lane you lazy *(#$%#(&!!!!! And not every road is symmetrical with turn lanes both ways.

edit: spelling

I use them when it's going to be useful to other drivers and myself. The rest of the time I don't.

One example, if I'm all alone on a road and making a right turn onto a sidestreet, and there are no other cars, then I don't use them. Sometimes. However, if there's a car behind me, or ahead of me wanting to pull out, I would.

another: If I'm in traffic and want to switch lanes, and it's not rush hour, I'll use them. However, In rush hour, where using the signal is likely going to allow the driver behind me the opportunity to gun it so I can't move over, no, I'm not going to give them that warning.

I've tried to be courteous in the past, and occasionally if I'm really not in a hurry to get to that lane, but, time and time again it's just screws me over in that situation. I'm not going to sit there like an ass anymore, waiting x minutes for another courteous driver to back off and let me over (and who's probably thinking 'just move over already dumbass'). Been There, done that.

So, in summary, get over it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. ;)

You'd think so. I mean, that would make sense.

sometimes my girlfriend makes fun of me because i use them when there is no other car in sight :)

which brings me to an important question...

theres a red light at an intersection in the middle of no-where.
Its 4 am and theres not another car around for miles...do you stop and wait for the light to turn green...or is it ok to go?

Not apples to apples. The only reason you'd even get pulled over for not using a turn signal is if they wanted to check something else out already. Face it, it's a minor issue to law enforcement. Running a red light, not the same thing. Even at 4am on a deserted highway/road, if a cop is staking that intersection out--odds are you'd get a ticket for running a red light long vs for not using a turn signal.

Using turn signals in the DC metro area just serves as a visual cue for people to try and prevent you from doing what you are signaling your intention to do.

Except in turn lanes, there's no guarantee that you will actually turn. It's not like people never get in turn lanes and then realize they do not want to turn. I'm waiting to make a left and I see someone oncoming in a left turn lane with no signal on, I don't know if they are going to go straight (thus I have to wait for them) or they are actually going to go left (thus I can go), so I'm sitting there wasting my time waiting for their lazy inconsiderate ass to either put a signal on or start going.

If you don't use a turn signal, you are literally too lazy to lift a finger for your fellow man. I pretty much lump child molesters and turn signal slackers in the same despicable group - repeat offenders should be shot without further question.

I lift my finger for the fellow man all the time...usually my middle.....good thing u quoted me about a right hand turn and then continue to rant about a left hand turn...note to self when drivin next to jzero use blinkers because obvious statements are uncomprehendable

I should have known I would have to spell it out to someone like you.
The example about the left turn lane....that was an example. Hopefully you know what an example is. It was an example illustrating the topic of the paragraph:
Except in turn lanes, there's no guarantee that you will actually turn. It's not like people never get in turn lanes and then realize they do not want to turn.

I've almost been sideswiped by douches going straight from right-turn only lanes as well.

I never have difficulty figuring out if there is a turn lane when looking at oncoming traffic. Maybe you should pay more attention.

I should mention one time some guy gave me a nasty look after I did use my turn signal.

I was traveling perpendicular to him (he was coming out a side street)... and even before I got to his side street, I signaled right... because there's a highway entrance not 100 feet passed the side street and I was aiming for its turning lane. Well he thought I was turning into his side street so he began his turn out of the side street... then he noticed I wasn't slowing down for his street and he basically gave me a WTF look as I went by.

IDIOT. I gave him the finger. :D I knew that was going to happen too... but if I signaled any later, the signal might as well have been useless. There was someone behind me.

The dude should've used my speed to judge... or maybe... just be more patient.

The solution is to mount magic gatling guns that never run out of ammunition aiming in all directions on your car. And then just have them firing constantly while driving.

I also get ticked at the drivers who leave their signals on for a couple of miles.

One of the biggest changes in driving I noticed after moving out here (LA area) from upstate NY was the chronic lack of blinker use. That, and people don't bother getting their car fully into a turn lane.
