Why don't you use your turn signals?

I'll add an update to the poll when someone comes up with a good explanation.

It does not matter if people use them or not. I always assume that the person left the turn signal on by accident if i do see someone with one on.

yup. in NY, you should, although plenty of people driving here do not :|

I always use it too.

However, if you're a daily NYC driver in Manhattan, you'll realize that as soon as you put your blinker on, the guy in the lane that you want to get into will speed up to prevent you from getting in!

Because 75% of Americans are handicapped and cant use them. In other countries the only people that drive automatics are handicapped and since 75% of americans drive automatic I am assuming they are handicapped and cant use them.

No i was not being serious about this post.

I think you might be the type of person to invent the straight signal... a constant blinker that signals my intention of continuing straight foreward on the road i am traveling...

why not... we have turn signal left, turn signal right, back up lights, stop lights, im in a hurry lights, we need a light for im just driving along straight and normal.

which brings me to an important question...

theres a red light at an intersection in the middle of no-where.
Its 4 am and theres not another car around for miles...do you stop and wait for the light to turn green...or is it ok to go?

Stop. Farm vehicles don't always have lights. Rural peoples don't always bother to turn their light on, why bother, there is nobody else around.

Farm vehicles are required to have lighting if they're going to be on the road at night. I've never seen a rural person not use headlights - how are you supposed to see the gauges and the road?

lol

I grew up in farm country. Seeing tractors and farm trucks on the road in the early morning with no lights was not uncommon. The law says one thing, the farmers have a different idea.

Only time I don't is if I'm cutting someone off on purpose because he or she pulled out in front of me or something like that.

Its not just NYC. I get around that by putting my blinker on after I start to change lanes. You can usually tell when they're going to block you. You might say this is useless...but I'm sure you've seen those morons before that just drift into your lane and you assume they're changing lanes. Then its just revealed that they just have no idea how to drive a car.

Showing your intentions is good, but it can also screw you over.

Additionally, sometimes I don't use them when I should because they are difficult to reach due to my hand position on the steering wheel. This doesn't happen often.

Most of the time I use them though.

People in oregon either don't know how to use turn signals or they're just so wasted all the time they don't bother to use them. I come from the bay area. It's typical here to pull up along side someone if you want to make a right turn (because obviously the person in front of you is going straight because their turn indicator isn't on). If you try to do this in oregon you'll get a bunch of crazed rednecks with tazmanian devils on their mudflaps hollering at you and mumbling in broken english us'e about to be a pancake there boy... because they don't bother to use turn indicators. So, in Oregon, you just have to assume at all times the person in front of you is going to turn whichever way they please at any random time.

If there's no traffic around or it's too far away to matter, I'll opt not to use the turn signal. Saves wear on parts.

I always use mine, and peeps who don't use theirs are waiting for an accident to happen. After you drive Rig for a few yrs. you'll see how much you appreciate common sense. Tail-gaters and no signals are top pet-peeves. Good post

Turn signals should be eliminated from vehicles altogether, not enough people use them or use them correctly anyway.

Not having the signals on any vehicles would then level the field and should actually be safer.

I once was in a wreck where I was making a left-hand turn, and the person tried to go around me to my left... obviously didn't work well. The old woman - who said she was running late to church - said she didn't see a blinker. My parents - whom I frequently correct for not using theirs - knew the b1tch was either lying, stupid, or blind.

People that don't use their blinkers should have their licenses taken away... period.
