Why don't you use Mozilla Firebird?

I`m happy with IE 6 and especially Opera 7 for speed,I think Opera 7 has built-in steroids 😉.

why do you like it better?

1. quicklaunch
2. I use it for email and don't feel like running both firebird & thunderbird (waste of ram, IIRC they share a lot of code, but as separate apps duplicate it in memory)

I don't use the quicklaunch feature, but that second reason is a major part of why I use the standard mozilla. There are minor things too, like if you open a link in a new tab mozilla focuses on the new tab while firebird remains focused in the original tab. This may be configurable, but I haven't played around with it enough.

Mozilla 1.5

Among other things, image quality seems to me to be best on Mozilla. I didn't really like the look of Firebird. Maybe I'll try it some more.

pfssst, why prefer the underdog?

Its clear IE is the best. Just wait until Longhorn is released, IE will have all your extra features such a pop-up blocking and better cookie management.

The other browsers are lame. Why must everyone go for the underdog all the time 🙂

Im not going for the underdog.
IE is the underdog, just cuz IE is widespread and "popular" doesnt mean its the best.
Opera slams IE to the pavement.

RIP IE

i installed firebird, i liked it very much, good feel. but the fact that sites with a lot of images took SO long to load drove me crazy. the images would go across the screen, one loading after another. not simoultaneously, but one would load, then the next, then the next, etc. quite annoying.

Because I have to have the Google Toolbar.... I would use it if that toolbar would work with it. Been using the toolbar for about 3 years or ever since it came out.... Can't give it up...unless it were proven that MS really is BigBrother in disguise.

Opera, even tho it has disadvantages (takes up precious screen space compared to other browsers) but also many advantages over firebird imho, for one that u dont have to install a kazillion plugins to get what you want, this might sound very un-linux-ish that's the whole point, I've installed opera on every Pc here and non tech savy users (like my mom and sister) can use it without problems besides some icky pages that insist using MS java that's a big advantage, install, and it runs, no trouble no config, just working, and no blody popups or spyware.
You can remove most of the toolbars you know. Right-click the toolbar and click off.

Opera does have a built-in search box that you can set to search using Google.

I use Mozilla 1.5 mostly cause I only run Linux at this time. But when in XP I use Mozilla and sometimes IE if Mozilla won't work.

But if you look at the Firebird page it does state that FB is not yet ready for prime time.

Ehhh, you mean to tell me that opera comes with flash, java, and media player plugins out of the box? Besides those I've never had to install any firebird plugins, but I don't see what's wrong with having cool extra features.

There was a Google Toolbar plug-in on there and I will give it all a try.

well, I'm mainly referring to the unused space beneath my tabs ... I dont really see the purpose of that space, and I cannot remove it without loosing my tabs ...

1. I hate tabs. An I am always accidentally opening something in a new tab rather than a new window because of the command layout on the right click.

2. I cant get it to stop re - using windows. I hate that.

I use Opera.

Who needs a google search box, when you can just type g in front of your subject in the address bar. I use that and other shortcuts like e for ebay.

My choices are

1. Opera
2. Mozilla

Mozilla Firebird. I heard about it, tried it out, and now use it constantly. I cannot stand IE's vulnerabilities, and it's also in Linux! 🙂 Thunderbird is my email program as well.

Mozilla Firebird can also do that. Just put the following go to manage bookmarks, name your bookmark whatever you want and then in url put the following "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%s&btnG=Google+Search" (without quotes) in keyword you can put "g" or whatever you want the shortcut to be. By the way if you don't like the google search box you can get rid of it by going to view/toolbars/customize

Linky to how to do it: http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/bookmarks/

I have been using Firebird for 3 days now. Pretty much like it (especially the industrial strenght pop-up blocking and lack of activeX fonctions). But I have to say that it's quite slow compared to IE and it sometimes renders pages incoreclty.

I use Mozilla Firebird and love it. I have long suspected that using it in conjunction with IE Explorer slows it down. Try uninstalling Internet Exploder first and then use Firebird. I think it is just as fast as IE6, has better features, pop-up blocking that works, and allows better customizing.
