Why don't you use Mozilla Firebird?

Hi,

My first experience on the internet was with netscape but then netscape became really slow, then I started to use IE, until about a year and a half ago when I tried netscape 7.0 and I really like it, then some friends convinced me to try mozilla and I was a convert inmediately. Then I switched to Linux, and I started to use Konqueror for a few months, then I started to use Mozilla Firebird and then I have been using it since then.

I have also tried other browsers such as lynx, galeon, epiphany, opera and others.

to the users of browsers rathern than mozilla, why do you use the broser that you use? Just out of curiosity

thanks,
pitupepito

Mozilla just works better for me. Firebird has some problems on Mac OS X 10.1.5. I would be using it if it didn't though.

I've got Firebird installed just to make sure the webpages I make work with it. I've been on IE for awhile and while it's a RAM hog I haven't had any problems so I won't fix it until it's broken

why do you like it better?

1. quicklaunch
2. I use it for email and don't feel like running both firebird & thunderbird (waste of ram, IIRC they share a lot of code, but as separate apps duplicate it in memory)

Personally I like mozilla firebird. Never used any other of the features from Mozilla, except the e-mail, and eventually I got tired of using it. Evolution fills that role nicely.

Other then that, Mozilla-firebird is Mozilla pretty much exept of all the extra stuff I use. So it nicer because it's smaller.

I use Avant browser, it just feels right to me. I have firebird installed but it didn't render some pages properly. It also just felt slower (don't start debating about it's speed).

PS: when it hits 1.0 I'll take a good hard look at it.

I use Mozilla 1.5 here. IME Mozilla is pretty well just as fast as firebird, but I do a fair amount of usenetting and emailing, so I need that functionality (and I prefer it built-in). I haven't look at Evolution in a while, but last time I tried it out it was a bit unstable for my liking.

Konqueror is smoother/faster (try walking through tabs with complex pages) and is part of KDE, thus I get save dialogs/consisten look etc.
I like all-in-one behavior, abilty to split views, kio slaves...
OTOH gecko engine it self is very good and I would probably use it with good QT/KDE frontend. mozilla-qt project isn't progressing and is unsuable now.

I use galeon instead of firebird because it seems to be a little faster than firebird on my system.

I used Firebird for about a day, then i uninstalled it. I just liked IE with Toolbar better.

I use Firebird for the most part, but I have to use IE for some sites, like my Invision Power Board since Firebird doesnt size the contents correctly and I cant see part of it.

I also have to use IE to access my company Intranet or Outlook Web Access for my company mail.

see my sig :)

prob with firebird is, it renders about 97% of all pages fine, and it seems i use the remaining 3% a lot :(

FB *NEEDS* VBScript support (i think most of the pages which dont work use vbscript).

Right now i am using IE again mostly and looking forward to FB1.0 in the hope its more compatible and has less bugs

otherwise...still a great, great browser !

I use Opera 7, it's fast, loads quickly without having to keep itself in RAM all the time, and mouse gestures are probably the coolest browser feature I've ever used.

Firebird's gui is a bit sluggish (in X anyways, dunno about windows or mac). I've been using epiphany recently and it's nice, although of course has a few of its own shortcomings.

I for sure hope that VBScript NEVER makes it into Firebird...its damn M/S technologies like that (and ActiveX) which make IE the cheddar-cheese of a browser it is. It'd be a damn shame if Firebird suffered from the same vunerabilities.

That's silly.

It just plays with the packet size and crap like that. If you noticed a change in performance it just means that Windows networking stuff is just realy crappy to begin with. (Which is realy isn't to bad.)

Anyways that stuff doesn't have anything to do with what browser your using. It affects stuff lower down then that. If it does indeed make a difference (which more then likely doesn't, unless your using win9x which may be s***y enough to need tweaking) then it would affect both Mozilla and Explorer.

Opera, even tho it has disadvantages (takes up precious screen space compared to other browsers) but also many advantages over firebird imho, for one that u dont have to install a kazillion plugins to get what you want, this might sound very un-linux-ish that's the whole point, I've installed opera on every Pc here and non tech savy users (like my mom and sister) can use it without problems besides some icky pages that insist using MS java that's a big advantage, install, and it runs, no trouble no config, just working, and no blody popups or spyware.

I use IE 99% of the time, and every once in a while I will fire up Opera. I will also use Netscape and a few other browsers to test web page compatibility, but not for personal use.

Ehhh, you mean to tell me that opera comes with flash, java, and media player plugins out of the box? Besides those I've never had to install any firebird plugins, but I don't see what's wrong with having cool extra features.
