I was just wondering about that.. The bible says that people around Noah's time lived into thier 800's (for example Methusla sp.) The only explanation from anyone today I've heard is it's because of our lifestyle and mainly our diet. What are your opinions??

BTW, If you don't believe in the bible, don't flame me...

B/c we smoke, drink, eat too much, drink too much, also do other things too much. A human is like a battery. When it's discharged it dies.

Lord of the Rings said elves are immortal. How come there aren't any immortal Elves in my neighborhood?

another theory is that "years" in the bible don't measure up to years as we measure them. but even if a year was only the equivalent of a season, that's still 242 years for someone like methusala (the oldest person ever according to the bible, i think 969). anyway, point is, people didn't live hundreds of years back then. unless you also believe the earth is only 6000 years old, in which case, don't let me rain on your parade :)

Also, what do you mean by "our diet"? Sure some fatasses eat McDonald's every day, but then there are a lot of uber health nuts out there too...

OH MY GOD.. This is the silliest and saddest post that I've read in a while.. Sheesh.. Though it would have been a cute question coming from a 4 year old.. I'd have to make something up about how really nice and religious people live longer lives or something.. Actually i'd tell em that both God and Santa are dead and that the little punk should toughen up and get a job..

To all those that are blaming diet/smoking/etc, I can guarantee you that in a world of 6 billion, there are at least several thousands or perhaps millions of people that don't smoke, don't drink, eat well-balanced proportions of fruits, vegetables, and take daily vitamins, minerals, and have monthly checkups.

How come we don't have anyone that ever lives past 116?

Why? Because the bible is horse sh!t, and if you honestly think that the human lifestyle over 2000 years caused people to lose 80% of their lifespan, you're a dumbass. Anyone with half a brain can deduce that child-bearing age is proportial to the total life span, and humans mature at the same rate they always have.

Because people can't be bothered to live that long.

When you get to about 100 you can barely walk and do many things. Your slow and its all buggered.

I would rather not live to 100 yrs thank you. With my life style I'm sure I could get to 100yrs but I would rather not. 80yrs be fine by me.

I was under the impression that longevity has increased because of medical advancement.

God granted those in his inner circle time travel abilities. Those who time traveled knew our time period was too horrible to visit so they didn't come this far forward. They ended up just jumping forward about 600yrs or so. So, to the non-time-traveler, it appeared as though some folks were around for 800years. Or not.
