How come we don't have anyone that ever lives past 116?

Why? Because the bible is horse sh!t, and if you honestly think that the human lifestyle over 2000 years caused people to lose 80% of their lifespan, you're a dumbass. Anyone with half a brain can deduce that child-bearing age is proportial to the total life span, and humans mature at the same rate they always have.

God granted those in his inner circle time travel abilities. Those who time traveled knew our time period was too horrible to visit so they didn't come this far forward. They ended up just jumping forward about 600yrs or so. So, to the non-time-traveler, it appeared as though some folks were around for 800years. Or not.

The sarcasm meter isn't responding to your post....

over the yeras, advances in medicine has been overshadowed by greater comsumption in commercialized foods, newer types of diseases, overpopulation, people killing each other, etc.

LOL..

2000 years ago the average life expectancy was probably ~40.

Your question should be.. Why don't more people live to be over 100 now?

People dont live past 100 because, they dont think they can. The body ages because the brain tells it to.

People started to live a lot shorter life after the flood. The Bible doesn't really give us an answer, but Genesis does give us this:

Genesis 6:3 - And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

From that you could possibly get that living longer then 120 years just allows a man to be tempted with sin more.

Interesting :)

Corresponds with Genesis 6:3 quite well for something that is "made up crap by insane people who beleive they were hearing "gods" word."

Wow a coincidence, thus the whole bible must be true.

ok, I will not flame you. Ok, I lied. If you believe that sh!t then you need to get smacked.

I have to agree with you. The bible is all heresy.
<My opinion>
It was written by a group of people that wanted to explain the unexplainable. I believe that the human race as a whole should just realize that the bible is complete bullsh|t, and forget about it. Technological advances would move a lot faster. For example, in the US, we are not allowed to produce any more embryonic stem cells. I think this is such a stupid law. If the only way to cure an otherwise incurable disease is to use untainted embryonic stem cells, and because of G. Dubya Bush prohibited the experimentation once our supply runs out, I will seek it illegally. I seriously hope someone in his family has a problem like this, and cannot be cured because of this stupid law. Also, cloning should not be illegal. I can't see how their would be a violation of ethics, because if I clone myself, my clone will not be me. It will have my DNA, but not my mind (Identical twins for example).

Ahem.

I studied optimal aging in college and there are factors that contribute to longevity.

My grandmother is pushing 98 and is still sharp as a tack.

With her, I'd say it is part genetics, part environment (she grew up before preservatives, chemicals, etc) and part attitude.

You need all three to make it that long.

What would you think could tempt the average 120 year old?

without explaining the bible thing, i can explain the age thing pretty easily:

If you were a Roman, you would have had a life expectancy at birth of 25 or 30. You would have had a 33% chance of dying before you hit age 1. You would have had a DALE (disability-adjusted life expectancy, or number of years you could work) of circa 10 years.

"Doctors" would have had no idea about life and death. Nobody would know that TB is caught from people who have TB, or that malaria is contracted from mosquitoes. You would have pooped in a pot, or in the street.

This lasted for a long, long time. Going back in time it was about the same, only more violent death and less plague (lower population density). Going forward in time it slowly improved as population declined and rose, then it really blew to be alive around the time of the plague.

Eventually people figured out sewers, and then they figured out germ theory, and, well, all the stuff in Civ3, and so life expectancy finally picked up a little. And now we're pretty good. Most people say that the maximum human life is circa 120 years: after that, your body just, well, gives up. This, incidentally, is called the rectangularization of the age pyramid: people are more likely to live to about the same age (right now in america it's really hard to die en masse before age 40).

Hope this helps.
