Why don't smartphones have smartcovers?

Like the ipad smartcover

?

Most cases seem to focus on...protecting the back of the phone...the part that doesn't matter, while leaving the front exposed to the elements.

It wouldn't be that hard to install little magnets to hold a smartcover in place, would it? the ipad smartcover was quite ingenious IMO.

Because they already have a flip cover(Galaxy line) that is stupid as f@$! why make it worst with this?

Both smart covers and flip covers on a phone are stupid.
A smart/flip cover doesn't automatically offer any more protection than a TPU case with glass screen protector combo. If anything, it offers less.

I would use wallet style flip cover if given one for free. I wouldn't use free screen protector though.

Unfortunately I can't use screen protectors, I hate how they feel and always peel them off a couple days later.

I've never had a flip case for my phone. But was thinking about getting one for my Nexus 5. It's a fairly large phone and I don't always keep it in my pocket because of that. A flip over would be nice for some front protection so I could more safely toss it in my backpack. I have a small sleeve I currently use when I want to put my phone in the backpack for now. $50 for the the LG flip cover definitely isn't happening. But maybe I'll find a cheap one worth buying eventually.

If you're a dude, yes. If you're a woman carrying in a purse, absolutely not.

Yep, I see plenty of women at work using flip covers.

They look way too annoying if you carry your phone in your pocket though. Mind you I haven't found a case/screen protector that doesn't annoy me yet.

It does offer less, as there is no protection on the corners for drops.

With that said, I still plan to stick on my blue smartcover case for my S4 for Christmas just for showing off around the family. The effect is cool.

I am loving the combo of a Neo Hybrid plus a glass screen protector. Looks pretty good and provides AMAZING protection. Like I would have broken my S4 at least three times now (as that is how many screen protectors I have cracked).

As much as I love the Smartcover on my iPad I didn't share the same feelings with the free flip cover that came with my Optimus G Pro. I strongly prefer using a case with my S4 that (should) protect the screen in case of a drop.

The majority of covers that I've seen used on smartphones happen to be by women in my experience.

Yeah, its totally personal preference. I've bought way too many cases over the years from cheap to way too expensive and I've disliked using them all.

I just keep my phones nude now and they have survived lots of drops.

About the only time I put a case on now is a really heavy duty one when I'm on my mountain bike, but there's no way I'd use one of those normally.

Wow, what the heck to do you do to your phones?

i like my phones razor thin.
why buy a razor thin phone and then make it bulky? if i wanted a bulky phone, i would have bought a bulky phone.

and to answer your questions, there are smart covers for phones. and im only aware of those from samsung, maybe LG too.

I would never buy a case for a phone that covered the screen. I put a screen protector on for that.

MotionMan

i hate the way those feel, but i am a spazz and will lose my phone if it isnt on my person, so i keep it in a holster case.

That's really odd logic to me... I had a glass screen protector which cracked with the first little drop. My brain said "this thing is a fragile POS, why would I put something weaker than my screen on top of my screen?". After removal I've dropped my phone a couple times without issue.

So I guess I wonder why you assume that if you didn't have the (more fragile) screen protector on, that the shock tested gorilla glass 3 screen would have cracked the same way. Obviously it's your phone, but it just seems to me like your case is doing all the work and you just keep paying for fragile glass that shouldn't be there in the first place. After a trial of a glass protector I'm back to normal crystal clear screen protectors.

I hate screen protectors with the heat of a thousand suns. I like the flip covers & usually have a couple in different colors.

I like it because it takes the shock of the impact, not my screen when I drop it on a metal edge or something. I have a pack of $10 eBay ones and I go through one every three months. I prefer that to plastic screen protectors as I hate how they feel.

The case really protects hitting on the phone's corners which happens too.

Don't like them because they're inconvenient as hell with one-handed use (I use my left hand) and the few times I want to use the camera.
