why don't police use impalas instead of crown vics?

impalas are faster, cheaper, and have similar room on the inside...so why not use Impalas? I'm sure they could make some package like the interceptor package on the crown vics too...

impalas are used a lot, however, they are FWD... != as good as RWD.

Chargers are the new hip cop car.

arg. They are terrible and when they were first introduced, their breaks caught on fire.

Impalas are not the greatest cars reliability wise, also FWD not really preferred by most departments. However, NYC uses Impalas

In Crown Vic cops have no fear of hitting anything. And car has shown to be very reliable for decades.

I saw a cop driving a white dodge charger the other day, didn't notice he was a cop till he flashed his lights to pull someone over.

they do... the only problem I see is that they're FWD. Torquesteer FTL

They have police packages, but they're still essentially the same car. The interior is the major difference, making room for computers/gunracks/equipment/cages/etc.

No tweaked engines, chassis, etc?

Umm, not to mention everything from the tranny to suspension is heavy duty. More so than the one you buy at the dealer. The usually have a larger engine in the police packages as well.

They have been using impalas for a long long time... at least in Canada. I very very rarely see a crown vic police car.

No they don't. The police package may have the sport/heavier duty suspension but engine and tranny are the same. They usually add oil and powersteering coolers if the cars don't already come with them but thats about it. The interior is the biggest difference.

They use mostly crown vics because they are extremely reliable, cheap, easy to work on, and parts are cheap when something does break.
