In the office where I'm working, every Friday one person brings in bagels and donuts for the entire department. This type of thing occurs in almost every office I have worked, with varying regularity.
What always baffles me is the selection of bagels and donuts. While everyone has different tastes, there are certain "safe" flavor choices that will likely be enjoyed by everyone. For bagels, plain and cinnamon raisin are "safe" choices. For donuts, glazed and chocolate covered are "safe." Inevitably, however, the people who supply the donuts and bagels select a sampling of every single flavor offered. This results in about 4 "safe" bagels and 4 "safe" donuts, which are immediately the first ones consumed. What remains are 44 bizarre flavors, many of which are unidentifiable by sight alone, resulting in a bunch of people standing around going, "What's that one?" "I dunno, it kinda looks weird."
Why do people order "one of everything" in this situation? Can't they use a little more discretion?
Of course, a free bagel
is a free bagel.
