Is running that huge of a burden? Are people that lazy/out of shape?

I ALWAYS run/jog across crosswalks and parking lots. It's polite. I suggest everyone else do the same, unless something is holding them back.

Why should I? Most of the time, it's a hell of a lot more comfortable in your car than it is outside, but I need to "pick up to pace", as to not inconvenience YOU?

The fat and lazy can lose weight with excercise. Unfortunately, you're stuck being a douchebag...nothing anyone can do for you.

It has taken me years to train my wife how to be courteous while walking in a parking lot.

Yup. I agree with Blanco as well. What I really hate is when some a-hole is walking down the middle of a parking lot aisle. Then instead of simply moving straight to the side to get out of the way they continue walking in the same general direction while slowly drifting to the side.

There's a VERY BIG difference between that and a crosswalk.

I'm not making a huge deal about this. I'm only saying it's polite to do so.

Besides, I pick up the pace when holding up cars for other people to be polite as well.

It's not a matter of politeness. Politeness would be whether or not they wave when they're strolling by. If they are dancing around, stop in the middle of the street talking to their friends, then you might have a point, but that would be so obvious you wouldnt need to say something.

But if theyre just not walking *fast enough* for YOU...you've got to be kidding me. That's just being self-centered.

Look up the definition of polite. I'm not saying it's a requirement...but that it's polite. And like I said...I do the exact same thing (speed up when holding up cars), so I'm NOT being self-centered.

Why is it that most of the time it the fat, lazy-looking, and generallly the most ghetto/whitetrashing looking people who take their own sweet time crossing the road. Obviously, if you are elderly or handicapped, I don't mind.. but dude, just because you have the right of way doesn't mean you are the "queen of the road".. move that fat asssee biatcheos.. or at least pretend to!!!

I usaully cross the street briskly.. esp. when there are cars.

reasons:

1) I think its polite.
2) Cars are big, if I get runned over, I die.. best I get the f out of the road.. just makes common sense.. screw who has the right of way!!!

Agreed.

Everytime I see a car waiting to make a turn while I am crossing the street, I usually give them a smile and run across to not hold them up. Even if they have to wait on other pedestrians, it usually makes the person in the car smile, and that is one less disgruntled individual on the road.

You think that everyone should conform to your beliefs. That you are the judge of what is polite, and what is impolite.

Polite: Marked by or showing consideration for others, tact, and observance of accepted social usage.

If anything, saying what you're saying is impolite. It is certainly not an act of showing consideration for others (only yourself), it's very untactful, and it certainly isnt universally accepted social usage.

It's just like tailgating. You might want to get where you're going faster, but it just makes you an asshole, and usually leads to people slowing down, not speeding up.

Maybe you're from the burbs, where cars are everything, and pedestrians are just in the way. But in the city, that's not gonna fly. I've been crossing the street at a normal, maybe even leisurely, but certainly not unnecessarily slow pace before, and some guy honked at me. There is no such thing as a polite honk. I stopped, stared at him, shook my head, and kept walking.

Don't get me wrong, it annoys me too. But I would never expect them to hurry up, for ME.

I would always hurry up for you if I was crossing the street in front of your car. But I'm a nice guy.

Hey, if the walk sign is lit I'm gonna walk dammit! We have this one intersection where cars will make a right turn even if it's a red light. I say fvck em. It's my time in the spot light. It's my turn to get attention from car drivers to cross the street. I get a lot of honks but I simply take my sweet ass time. Some cars rev their engine and pretend to want to run me over. I just give them a blank look and maintain my liesurely walk across the street of death.

It's interesting how people are so brave to honk their horns inside the safety cocoon of their car and yet these same people would dare not say a thing when walking and someone in front decides to stall the foot traffic a bit.

Second that

Anyway, I either wait until it's a red light and they have to stop anyway, or I sprint across the street wherever I jolly well feel like it, intersection or open-stretch. If it's open it's open.
Anyway, I don't like holding people up either, but sometimes it just doesn't matter. Stoplights can't tell if the walkers have gone across or not, so the light is the same color for the same amount of time. And if I'm at a stopsign, the street is obviously small enough to get over without being at an intersection, so I wait for the cars to pass and then walk across wherever, usually don't even need to think about running.

Well for I can only talk for myself but I always run because of where I live(Montréal).
I was told that's only in the Povince of Québec, even more in Montréal that way are the worst drivers/cyclists/pedestrians so here unless you want to see who is stronger, you or the car coming, you have no choice but to run across streets or parking.

Its rude to drive in a congested area. If it upsets you try being a pedestrian for once.

I'm a pedestrian all the time at college. I ALWAYS hustle across the street. Why? My parents taught me to...like they taught me to be polite in all things.

So at college, at least to me, means you are still in college. As such I now think it is reasonable to conclude that you are some self-centered know-it-all college kid who just thinks they are so 'deep' and what have you. And, that is just going off of what you posted.

Get the hell over yourself, if you can't wait a few more seconds for somebody to cross the street then you have way more problems than just simple impatience.

lmao so ironic

i also believe that the polite thing to do is to jog. at the same time though it isnt that big a deal if they are just walking along.

as long as they dont slow down and walk even slower when they see you pull up, lol

I believe in politeness. I believe that when I jaywalk I should run unless there are no cars out there. If cars need to brake for me, I try not to jaywalk. If I can run across with the car not having to brake (or barely) then I would do it (esp if I'm in a rush).

I hate driving around Berkeley and I frown upon the horrible pedestrians in this area that have zero respect for cars. I hate having to slam on my brakes because someone thinks they can hit the cross button which illuminates the crosswalk at night and stroll across when I clearly need to brake hard. Sure you can risk your life like that and piss me off, but what good does that do? What if my brakes fail one day? Idiots. I also hate the idiots who stroll across when it's a clear RED for them with their stupid cell phone talking. If you can't even cross a street at the right time with your cell phone, gosh, please don't even get into a car to drive. I've seen cases where my light turns green and instead of being able to drive, some pedestrian thinks its funny to start crossing the wrong way. Wow.

Thus because I hate idiotic pedestrians and I think they the most rude and dumbest pieces of sh!ts live in a town like Berkeley, I try not to become what I hate by remaining a good pedestrian. I will cross when I am supposed to and when I need to jaywalk, I will run/jog.

Edit: It's the whole right of way thing and insisting it that pisses me off. Cars have a right of way system when dealing with traffic intersections like 4-way stops. People who insist their right of way are sometimes annoying. People who cut you off and weave around dangerously piss you off.

Similarly, pedestrians have right of way, but they should NEVER EVER insist on it. Why? You're competing against a 2000lb car that can crush you in no time. Why fight?

I love it when I stop at a stop sign and there's a pedestrian waiting to cross, but he/she will tell me to go first simply because they want to walk across and would probably take more of my time, but I usually make them cross if they show me such politeness.

Similarly, I try to let cars go first if I get to the stop at about the same time. There's no reason for me to hold up traffic when I can start crossing after the first car leaves the stop sign (thus there's less time wasted because the next car needs to roll up to the stop sign, stop, and then wait for me to finish and by then I'm mostly across the street).

Even more important is when it's morning and people are walking to class. There's a line of students walking down the street. Sometimes we hold up like 1 car for 20 seconds or so just because people keep crossing. I'll try to let cars go if they have to wait for like 3 different groups of people to cross. If you can't cross with the leader and have to force the car to wait for a 2nd group, that's ok, but if it has to wait for a 3rd group, that's pushing it, and at that point I'll let the car go before starting a new group crossing...
