I agree...some businesses should be open on weekends, and pick 2 weekdays to be off, car stuff & barber shops are big ones.

Another thing I hate is the Post Office....us 9-5'ers can barely get something shipped, and we hafta make special arrangments! Stay open 'til 6!
Don't even get me started on banks and the post office........

IMO...
Every business should hire 2-3 shifts and be open 24/7/365.

so many unemployed, so many people to spend money.

Sh1t man... I shop at night...
I'd go to the doctors at 3am instead of waiting 3 months for an appt.
Same for car repairs, banks, post office, etc.

P1ss on everyone who works "bankers hours" and then closes shop.

the idea here is, they could make a good deal more money if they hired a weekend staff, or had staffing set up so they had people who only worked 5 days a week, but had peple to work weekends as well. I'd love nothing better than to get a tire fixed, a head gasket replaced, or something random on a sunday, its more money for them, really. noone has to work 7 days a week, they would be able to afford more staffing IF they worked the weekends! =P

 banks especially... wtf is up with this 2 or 3pm BS ? I'm sorry but I don't trust depositing $4k checks through the ATM (as an example). Just to get it re-issued to me would be a hassle-and-a-half if something were to happen.

I think their parts suppliers are closed during the weekends as well. At least that's a contributing factor. Can't do much work if you can't replace the broken part. Most smaller ships (mechanics) order stuff on demand / don't carry an inventory of items.

Bingo!
It would take a lot more then changing the hours on your sign to make Sunday work possible.
And besides Sunday is for football and beer!

Where do you live that banks close at 3:00? Banks here have drive up hours until 7-7:30 and most have at least a couple week nights with extended lobby hours.

How about depositing checks during lunch hour if you are so paranoid?

Most banks in NJ here are open late once a week thru a drive thru window.

COMPLETELY UNTRUE. Ever hear of loaner cars? If you are getting significant work done then they will gladly give you a loaner car free of charge at most dealerships. Even my local hyundai dealership gives out free loaners.

Ever hear of jobs where you MUST be in the office 8 to 5? How the heck do we get a loaner car when we can't even drive to the mechanic in the first place?

Many, many people have to take a half days vacation to get their car in for that very reason. It would be wonderful to be open Sundays even if it were just for a car dropoff/loaner pickup and no mechanics. As it is, we have to beg friends to do it or get an expensive rental car.

And (ScottFern) aren't you aware that a local mechanic's shop probably won't have a loaner car, unlike a dealer?

A dealership would make up for that in the cost of the labour.

OK sir, let me explain this for you. You can drop your car off after work and if you let them know over the phone they will have a loaner ready when you come in. Unless 9pm is to late to make it to drop off your car? This REALLY isn't this hard. Using your brain helps.

And they just leave the keys in the ignition ready for you to come at 9 pm? Since they close after 5, no one is there...

So they would charge you more because your getting a loaner? Not possible. They have to charge everyone the same amount of hours based off of the standard hours table for the job. Thats just a little paranoid.

Dealers with loaner cars charge ~$60 an hour (whether or not you get the loaner). Mechanics without loaner cars charge ~$50 an hour.
