OK sir, let me explain this for you. You can drop your car off after work and if you let them know over the phone they will have a loaner ready when you come in. Unless 9pm is to late to make it to drop off your car? This REALLY isn't this hard. Using your brain helps.
And they just leave the keys in the ignition ready for you to come at 9 pm? Since they close after 5, no one is there...

Wow, SALES is open until 9pm and if you talk to the nice cashier she can handle that. Its not hard to hand you a set of keys and have a porter bring the car up? I've worked at many dealerships...and they all do this.

Because of Jesus silly!!! You see, back in biblical days, Jesus told Abraham that it wasn't good to fix cars on Sunday. So Abraham, being such a good president decided to pass a law that prohibited mechanics from working on Sundays.

Not around here. Sales is open 9 to 5 only M-F.

So they would charge you more because your getting a loaner? Not possible. They have to charge everyone the same amount of hours based off of the standard hours table for the job. Thats just a little paranoid.
Dealers with loaner cars charge ~$60 an hour (whether or not you get the loaner). Mechanics without loaner cars charge ~$50 an hour.

Well I don't know if your making that up, or what, but I have NEVER heard of this ever. It's $90/hr no matter if you wait for your car or drop it off at most dealerships around here.

Every mechanic offers a free loaner? News to me... Some of us don't have Infinitis with amazing warranties.

Ok at your location: $90 for dealer (which usually have loaners), $80 for independant mechanic (who usually don't have loaners).

Sales open to 5pm? That seems counter-productive. Why not stay open to 9pm when most people aren't available until 5pm to 9pm? I live around 15 dealerships and they all have sales open until 8pm or 9pm. But thats Chicago burbs.

That is EXACTLY the point of this thread. We can't get there from 9 to 5 on M-F. So we are wishing more places would be open more hours during the week or even better on weekends.

Yeah, well thats just where you live. All the local dealerships don't have this problem around Chicago. So I am saying its something with your area.
EDIT: Why would you want to go to an independent mechanic??? When I am assuming you have a newer car with some type of warranty? That independent mechanic is not going to warranty your motor when you start leaking coolant or something and he can't warranty it.

You are living in your own little perfect bubble aren't you. Multiple people in this thread have mentioned the same complaint - and they are scattered around the country. I was just in Chicago, and yes, the car commercials listed them being open late. But that is rare. Most of the rest of the country isn't like that.

And most people don't have a new car under warranty. Neither of my cars are. 2002 Honda Civic and 1999 Acura TL.

If you actually read what I posted earlier, I said HYUNDAIS, yes $10,000 new cars give out free loaners. Oh, and not just Infinitis have good warranties. Your just stuck in this negative midset and won't accept the fact that even cheaper cars do this.
