Jewish Indian? Elaborate ...

he was born and raised in India until he went to college here in the states. his mom is jewish and so are the rest of his siblings... that's all i know. they celebrate yom kippur, rosh hashannah (spspspsp), and all the other jewish holidays.

Some Christians do not eat pork, for health reasons. It could be the Christian influence, rather than Hindu.

My eyes are really messed up this morning, because I could have sworn the title said "Why don't Indians pee at work?" Don't ask me how I thought that, I just did.

I don't know why they don't eat pork though.

I am from an indian home and we grew up eating chicken/fish/duck. Just about anything except pork and beef.

It is just the way we were raised. My parents were raised that way too. My grandparents eating NO MEAT at all.

I think this must be her situation... thanks for the enlightenment!

So is not eating pork kind of a culture thing, like they just don't like it, or what? Or am I making up the fact that people practicing Hindu don't eat pork...

Hindi is the national language of India, not a religion.

No, the national language is ENGLISH, due to the vast amount of dialects. I've actually been there. SHAZZAM!

Question:

Why is the eating of pork forbidden in Islam?

Answer:

The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known. The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:

1. Pork prohibited in Qur?an

The Qur?an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

"Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur?an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur?an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

2. Pork prohibited in the Bible

The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus

"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".

"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."
[Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."
[Deuteronomy 14:8]

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.

From Romans 14

13Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way. 14As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. 15If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died. 16Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. 17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.
19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

There are no "restricted" foods in Christianity.

If you ever look at those archeological digs they do at ancient cities in the middle east, they weren't very clean. Peoples idea of taking out the trash then was to simply dump it out the window in to the street. This is partly why Tels formed. Centuries worth of garbage and trash built up over the years and slowly raised the level of the city. Sites occupied for >2000 years had a lot of garbage pile up.

Because pigs rooted through human waste it was much more likely that meat from pigs was infected with some paracite that affected humans. This is that same reason why one *never* fertilizes a field with human waste. So what if the crops we grow or the meat we eat is infected with a cyst that afftects cows. Our immune system can handle it. But it was much more likely that pigs were infected with something that was harmful to humans.

Anyway, over the course of a few centuries people noticed that people got sick when eating pork, so they prohibited it for religious reasons. Even though conditions aren't the same today this has still carried over. Their loss. Modern pork is no longer unclean because we don't let the animals roam around in an unclean environment.

The national language is Hindi, however English is spoken very widely and is used a lot for commercial and/or political communication.

Dude!

Not all Indians are Hindu.

Maybe she just doesn't like pork?

You realize that not everybody around the world shares our culture.

Yeah, but bacon tastes good; pork chops taste good.

i am from india. it is not like that.
we are allowed to eat pork but as said below is true.
The cow is considered Holy by Hindus, that's why Hindus don't eat beef pork is generally looked down upon by Hindus as well now with regards to your friends, most Christians and Muslims in India were originally Hindus who were converted into either Islam or Christianity so it might well be a case where her forefathers might have been Hindu and the culture of not eating Pork might have continued.

both the reason are true.
you see we can eat any pork item, but the is always a chance of the pork from the pig being a infected one.
also there is an economic view to this,
majority of indians are hindu who dont touch cow(we consider it sacred),and dont eat pig as i explained.
many Hindus from the southern part of India are vegeterians.
the muslim community dont eat pork.
even few christians do not eat as explained earlier.
so selling pork in India is not very profitable!!
but if you have been to goa, you will definately enjoy the great beef they make there.:)

Yeah, but bacon tastes good; pork chops taste good.
a chinese guy saying this would be "Ahso, but Fried Cockroach tastes so good,Raw Ducks Eyes tastes son good"

its all in your head.
btw i eat chichen,egg,mutton,fish,pork.not beef.
maybe you people visit here, and my mum can cook you some nice pork vindhaloo. :D
