Why doesn't Saddam want to disarm?!

"Their explanation is that the UN demanded that they destroy their biological and chemical weapons, and they did so when they were asked to do it. Unfortunately, they did it without UN observers, before they decided to form inspection teams. Hence, when the inspectors arrived, the weapons were already destroyed. Do I believe them? About as much as I would believe anything the Bush administration says."

If he destroyed them, surely there would be some proof somewhere that they were destroyed. What did they do, wave a magic wand and they just vaporized into thin air? That would be a neat trick.

You are correct. He didn't destroy them. There would be some sort of documentation to back up their claims if they had.

Ok, but what's the official explanation?

Did the US ever ask him WHY he wants to have those weapons?

Saddam's reason for having those weapon's was released in Iraqi Weekly "I don't won't fire them, they just are cute and I like to look at them."

Come on VBBoy why do you think he wants them!

Who are they? Name them and the countries.

It would take a long post to try and explain why I think Saddam wants weapons of such power. The short explanation is to look at how he stays in power in Iraq. He does not do it by the good graces of the people of Iraq but by fear and intimidation. He assassinated his way to the presidency of Iraq and has established a number of security agencies that keep check on the people and each other to ward off even the hint of revolution. The WMD is just that same type of "threat" to be used against the world to keep him in power.

There are other reasons. The feeling of many in that region that their destiny has somehow been stolen from them. They were once a proud empire and now they are almost third world countries. It can't be their fault so they blame the country on top- the US. The WMD are a way for them to feel equal if only in that one regard.

The Saladin complex. Saddam has his picture on stamps with Saladin. He has had statues built of him wearing Saladin?s crown (IIRC).

The final result of it all. He started two wars, one was essentially a draw and the other he lost. He has been under UN sanctions to disarm and has refused. This is his last chance to peacefully disarm.

WMD are obviously good. We aren't attacking North Korea.

That is because China is right next to them and China would not look too kindly to American troops waging a war on their border.

OMFG... you actually believe that? LMAO!

"on the 23/11/01 we destroyed a bomb, on the 24/11/01 we destroyed a bomb"

Yeah, everything is documented? please, not every country does that...

NK? Cuba? Lebanon? nah... no oil there...

I just love how you will not admit that it is the oil, EXCEPT when france and russia opposes an invasion, then suddenly it's ALL about oil (from their side, not from the US side, heaven forbid)...

This discussion is so stupid because if the US DOES attack without UN support they have set a standard, you no longer need the support of the UN and it's ok to attack based on a hunch....

So do NOT complain when china invades whatever country they want to...

If there is a war, then yes, i will be what all you call me, an america-basher... this is INSANE and you cannot see it... It's sad really...

Saddam needs to go, i agree, but support the people instead of bombing the sh!t out of them... (then again, you would have a goverment of the people of irak, that wouldn't be nice, you need a US-friendly government)
