This should be the norm in my opinion. I've seen many ISPs offer antivirus, but I wasn't aware that firewall solutions were being offered now as well.

RoadRunner offers antivirus and firewall (eTrust) free with their software package.
Verizon uses Westell Dual Connect router/modem/bridges/whatever for PPoE clients which is configured for NAT (static ip requires switching it to bridge mode).
There's a good chunk of your broadband users around here.

yeah verizon offers free mcafee antivirus and firewall with their dsl plans.

Chalk up another positive for Verizon, then. I didn't know that. :thumbsup:

I have NEVER had a virus or spyware on my PC. My 75 year old mother had ONE piece of spyware on her PC years ago, and she learned her lesson and has been clean since. My GF has NEVER had spyware or a virus.

You know, I wish everyone WOULD switch to Macs. That way, people would start coding spyware for macs instead of windows (because people only code spyware for IE/Windows because it's the MAJOR market leader.) and I'll be plenty happy because I'll still be running the latest version of windows without having to run spybot to tell me that there is no spyware.

[steps out on limb] I agree with the guy, Windows is quite the pathetic product out of the box. I don't have many problems using it though, but when you think of it we all jump through a lot hoops when installing Windows that we wouldn't for practically any other thing we buy. Driver Updates, Service Packs, Security Updates, Set this/Set that, Install AV, Install Ad Blocker, Install Spyware detector, yadda yadda ya.

Would anyone here buy a car that required you to take it into Service before even leaving the Lot in order to avoid catastrophic breakdown? I wouldn't, that'd be stupid. That said, I use Windows and I do everything required to keep it from melting down, but if something came out that did everything that Windows does without the need to coddle it, I'd dump Windows faster than you could say "PEBCAK".

I am a Mac user. I also uses PC's. But when I see articles like those, always saying "Get a Mac" or "Windows Sucks" or "Switch to Mac" or something like that, constantly bashing the PC, it tends to get irritating. I am tired of those articles, really.
