The US gives less aid than people THink. In 2000 it was only 6 billion dollars out of a budget of over a trillion that is less than 1%. One third of that went to israel for weapons. THe US by percentage is one of the lowest givers of foreign aid

it's about 50/50, i don't know where you come up with "virtually everybody"...
>>

It surely doesn't feel like 50/50 to me.

Now, I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come. And I believe it could be; something good has begun. Oh, I've been smiling lately; dreaming about the world as one. And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come. Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train. Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again. Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come. And, I believe it could be, something good has begun. Oh peace train sounding louder. Glide on the peace train. Come on now peace train. Yes, peace train holy roller. Everyone jump upon the peace train. Come on now peace train. Get your bags together; go bring your good friends too. Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you. Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you. And it's getting nearer; soon it will all be true. Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is. Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss. Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train. Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again.

I'm not ready to dispute this tidbit, but it would be nice if you could elaborate or give a link to your statistical evidence.

Thank you:)

Are you saying that Israeli converts apples and oranges into weapons?

so its like people should agree with a country just to support it, but they shouldn't say anything bad, even though thats their opinion and they have every right to say whatever the hell they want to, sounds like a friggin communist nation
>>

you just contradicted yourself. Vespasian is voicing his opinion and you are trying to say he shouldn't? maybe you are the communist huh?

Hypocrits...
:) but from that kind of genes a man can't expect anything better, America and Australia and New Zealand is consisted of people which ancestors were cryminals, demented people, people that the cultural Europe didn't want to hold, money grabbing freaks etc. etc.
Now ou grow people over there like rats because you know the formula for success, and after you've grown too many people and recources you go out and start wars ... Vietnam, Serbia, and the latest one...

You people are so bored that you would do anything :) I feel sorry for most of you, and mostly for the minority of inteligent people, the must feel really bad living among so catastrophicaly idiotic fellow citizens

actually he is right about that. if you look up this history of when the first ships after the pilgrims came over from the UK you will see that most of the people sent over on the ships were people that were in prison or jails in the UK. i read it in this book Women Who Kill the first part of the book explains how a lot of criminals were sent here rather than keeping them in the UK. the book deals with less about actual women who kill and more with how they go into this country. it's an interesting read though...

Taken from "History Of European Expansion" site.................

  • As in previous centuries, the expansion did not stop at the borders of the European continent. European countries continued to cross the oceans to find fertile land and to get a hold on international trade. These searches were intensified and colonies were founded in America by the absolutist and mercantilist European states. Knowledge about these areas grew, as did the means of transportation to get there. The conquering of the new world and the ability of the states to connect all oceans in a world-wide navigation network and their aggressive hunt for commercial hegemony resulted in a re-united human space for the first time since mankind first spread across the earth. As a result, very different groups met that had previously been separated by distance. The colonies in America needed many slaves to do the heavy work and for this many colonies imported incarserated slave labor from Europe the majority of which were killed or died of disease. The migration of Europeans to America caused migration in Europe too. Many people looking for work were on the move towards the harbours from where the ships left. Another migration kept alive by migration of Europeans to America, amongst other things, was the regional labour migration. The Europeans that left to go to America to earn more money than at home left jobs behind, that were taken over by labourers from poorer countries.

Personally i hope we can help a lot of people, espically those kids over there in Africa that have to drink that nasty diseased water. If it wouldn't for us a lot of those people wouldn't be here.

How many acres of arable farmland does the next in line have? And what percentage of their output was this 1.6 billion?

Why feed starving people when you only end up with more starving people? It's not the right solution to the problem.

1) Every foreigner isn't out to get or hates the US
2) The US isn't the sole nation in this world who gives aid across the globe
3) The US isn't perfect, ie: there are very legitimate ctiticisms that can be made of the US
4) some people bash the US relentlessly to be sure, but others in this bash foreigners(see thread starter) relentlessly as well
5) if the US ceased to exist, the world would suffer a setback, but it wouldn't go to hell. Aka, get over yourself already.

Finally someone I can agree with.

Reading these forums, I sometimes get the impression some people have trouble accepting #3....

Actually......I stand corrected! It appears the second in line was actually England at 3.4 billion (budget 757billion) with 25% arable farmland, but, 46% was pasture land and their largest aid source was cattle in 2000 followed by grains and monetary aid................:Q Wasn't 2000 "madcow era"????????:Q:Q

Also, the figure for the U.S is 6.9 billion and a budget of just over 1 trillion. U.S. arable farmland: 19%, pasture land: 25%..........

The poor people who are helped and are starving are not the ones you hear complain about the US in great part. They are content to be fed, i'm sure. Those you hear from are those who don't necessarily need any US support at all. I think many millions who never have their voice heard appreciate it.

I did some research on it last year. Its all in the federal budget (took a bunchof work to get out)you just have to look for it. It was for one of my gov classes i went in with a completely different perspective on the ammount of aid the US gives.

I'm not saying that the US doesn't give aid. Its just a lot lower than people think it is .

Thats a little over .6% of the USA's output given... Compared to .45% of England's... When you take into account that our 19% arable farmland is probably like 15 times the size of their 25% (rough estimate, just compare the areas of the countries) they're being VERY generous.

uh when calculating food statistics about 2 billion in aid to israel should be removed from those calculations.

I agree......England is generous, most of their aid was in the form of beef and cattle though.........;) Quite honestly, noone can even come close to the annual crop tonnage the U.S. produces and we do not come close to producing what we could if needed. Why? Because the market will not support it! There is not a sufficient market to support the prices and lets face it........nobody is going to grow these crops and just give them away!!! Hell, the average price for a bucshel of corn is about the same as it was in 1930! I know they can produce much more per acre, but, the costs of producing that is much, much higher too as well as the cost of the seed and planting!;) It's just not feasable for the farmers to produce more when there is no market for it except to give it away..............;)
