That is a very good question, I am glad you got past disputing what Republicans are doing to asking what the Democrats are doing about it.
I choose not to play your little blame game.

So...please answer the question. Who are your heroes and exactly what are they doing to help the middle class?

You choose not to play it because Republicans would lose.
I would say the Liberals in Congress are the real heroes, and unfortunately they aren't in position to do much about it, because so called "moderates" keep selling out.

You are free to continue pretending that middle class decline over the last 30 years is purely coincidental to the policies pursued by Republicans (and some co opted "moderate" Democrats) during those years. Just don't be surprised when the trend continues going forward.

I am not arguing for the republicans, just trying to get you to attempt to not be a partisan hack.

Wait - NOW with industrial strength fail? I'm assuming that by "now" you mean about 15,500 one-dimensional, poo-flinging posts ago. :D

Pretty much. The dude is a complete hack, let's see how long he can bounce away from answering Docs question.

I already called out "moderate" Democrats on this. This is why I am not a registered Democrat, because Democrat does not automatically mean fighting for the middle class, so I'd rather support candidates directly. Many moderate Democrats are just selling the middle class out at a more moderate tempo than Republicans who want it gone yesterday. It is very telling that no one in this thread seriously arguing that Republicans are not hurting the middle class, instead resorting to attacking Democrats.

I choose not to play it because there's really no point...you obviously already know all the answers.

Hope I'm not putting you out...but I did ask you a specific question about what Liberals have done and are doing currently to help the middle class. Am I asking too much of you?

Have you guys even looked at the upper tax brackets before 1980? I am surprised there even was an upper class.

These are the three main tax brackets.

1930 10% 21% 25%
1932 16% 36% 56%
1934 19% 37% 56%
1936 19% 39% 62%
1938 19% 39% 62%
1940 28% 51% 62%
1942 55% 75% 85%
1944 59% 81% 92%
1946 56% 78% 89%
1948 56% 78% 89%
1950 56% 78% 89%
1952 62% 80% 90%
1954 56% 78% 89%
1956 38% 62% 75%
1958 38% 62% 75%
1960 38% 62% 75%
1964 16% ??? 77%
1965 14% ??? 70%
1968 14% ??? 75%
1969 14% ??? 77%
1970 14% ??? 71%
1971 14% ??? 70%

There was deficit spending way back in the 40's so don't sit there saying raising taxes on the rich the answer to all the problems in the world?????

Hmm, what else could have been responsible for deficit spending in the 40s...

They are fighting to keep programs that help the middle class. Education assistance, health care subsidies, Social Security, Medicare.

I call it playing two move chess on a five move board. They can't see and don't understand how wealth accumulates, how they are paying their taxes to rich bond holders, how power corrupts and curry favors etc. Liberals are no better, paying people to sit at home encouraging sloth, deteriorating skills etc.

There were way more deductions back then....total tax have never exceeded 20% of GDP.

Anyway the real travesty in tax code is passive income (or what you can label as passive like a CEO getting paid $1 and taking out 100 million as options) getting taxed less than working people.

A doctor pays ~ 45% taxes when you include employment taxes (SS, medicare etc)
A investor pays a flat 15% no employment taxes. Or zero % on Treasuries and municipal bonds.

Makes no sense. Not only is work more noble IMO it obvious how rich get richer under such a system

Why do you think these rich people leading us have no problem deficit spending? Puts us into slavery to them tax free.

There is no way in hell there were that many reductions back then. To be taxed at 15% you have to hold the stock for more than a year. That was put in place to ensure market stability and spark investment. If you sell a sock before 1 year you pay full income tax on any profits.

There were a lot more and no AMT.

You're only talking LTCG which was reduced by Bush from 28% to 15%. However, Dividends now are also taxed at 15% while they used to be taxed as regular income back in Clinton days and before... That's HUGE giveaway to the leisure class and breaking us.

Awesome. But hey...wait a second....we've had these programs for a long time and the middle class has been shrinking for a long time. Looks like the "plan" isn't working so well. Perhaps you need to rethink the issue...as well as your devout loyalties.
