Never mind the fact that if you do happen to be below the poverty line an Associates and even in a lot of cases a Bachelors Degree would cost you nest to nothing in scholarships, student loans, financial aid and grants. For every person someone sees anecdotally abusing some system ie wic vouchers with beer with cash- there are hundreds of people who actually NEED that help.

Its disingenuous and frankly ignorant to label all poor as lazy or comfortable in their misery since the VAST majority would be out on the street or eating cat food without that social safety net. Some do lift themselves out of the bottom with hard work and much help.


I knew an young lady who was homeless in New York City at the age of 14. She left her home because of abuse and felt she had nowhere to go. She was befriended by a social worker who helped get her into a home. Through the help of a Goverment program she got to go to a very good school where it was discovered that she was a major talent with music.
She went to school under another evil government handout and is now a principle singer at the Metropolitan Opera house.

I truly dont think that any of you who complain about handouts have ever truly been hungry or worried if you were going to be able to feed your kids this week.... I actually feel sorry for you because frankly your vapid existence is clouded by misguided ignorance and misplaced hate.

Why dont you walk a mile in the shoes of a poor person and see if you still feel the way you do..

An unsubsidized private college tuition would not cost you next to nothing. The college degree that costs next to nothing is subsidized with handouts, mainly government ones.

Who creates more jobs, the big business or small businesses. Which do the Dems favor; not the small businesses.

Handouts did not prevent me from increasing my wealth. I got federal financial aid handout to go to college, and am now a gainfully employed tax payer working in the tech field, and have long more than paid back what I got and then some. It's a win win for everyone.
Now if short sighted Republicans got their way, having no money to pay for college, I would have gone to work straight out of high school.
Instead of focusing on learning and reaching my full potential, I would stand/fail on my own sweat working low wage jobs well below my potential, maybe eventually scraping up enough to go part time to a community college, or maybe not. It would probably take me 10+ years to get to the point in my career that government handout funded college education got me to in 4 years. That would be lost productive potential in the economy that Republicans are perfectly happy to throw out to keep true to their ideology.

I also got my education started under a Republican administration and used Pell grants to cover my tuition.

The difference I can see between then and now is that the government money that is going into student loans and grants are not being directed to where they are more beneficial.

By opening the door for everyone no matter what their qualifications are, the expectation is that funding will be available and not needed to be accountable. It is the abuse of programs that cause the backlash not the programs themselves. Make the programs more means and results tested with less funding. You will get quality people instead of McDonald working lawyers/PHD basket weavers.

Roughly, my income has doubled every 10 years due to hard work and starting my own vs hanging around picking the low handing fruit and asking for handouts.

I see what I started with and what I have succeeded; there is no question in my mind that others can do the same without the handouts that slow them down.

So what if you have to start out at a CC. Go there two years and earn a scholarship if you are that good. Or go to school at night and work during the day. One may lose the party experience - oh well. School can be completed in 4-5 years that way. Or reverse and work at night - get 4 years of schooling done and not have to touch a drop of beer.

Even without handouts, using what is available from the school system, one can make it. But too many do not want to put in the extra effort and abuse the system instead.

You had the option to scape around and still make it. HAving the goverment funding made it easier on you; now you feel that everyone does not need to work hard; yet you refuse to provide the funding needed for all those handouts.

That public assistance was put to good work by those that wanted to use it.

Most will not put it to work, use it and then quit - the effort to continue is beyond their capability.

As such those funds are wasted.

A better screening process is needed and also kill these IIT Tech type places from sucking the public dole $$.
Any place that adjusts tuition costs based on the ability of grants/student loans is very suspicious. When the course work is not even transferable to accredited schools.
