They're a territory, not a state.

read: they get all the benefits of being Americans without the draw backs like paying taxes.

They are a common wealth and only they can decide if they are to join the Union. They don't get to vote for president and they don't get a vote in Congress. Also their interstate trade, foreign relations and commerce, customs administration, control of air, land and sea, immigration and emigration, nationality and citizenship, currency, maritime laws, military service, military bases, army, navy and air force, declaration of war, constitutionality of laws, jurisdictions and legal procedures, treaties, radio and television--communications, agriculture, mining and minerals, highways, postal system; social security, and other areas are controlled by the US.

The players from Puerto Rico are proud to represent their country
and play to and above their capabilities.

The American players mailed it in and could care less... they've
got their money in the bank.

It would have been even sweeter seeing the "top players" like
Shaq and co. getting rocked.

Those players from Puerto Rico probably don't make a lot of $$$ so they played harder and wanted to win more.

The NBA players didn't care too much or they jus thad no team cohesion?

I reckon if Shaq went he would have fought hard and turned the game around. He doesn't like to lose and he fights for it from what little I have seen of him. Not pretty bball but he gets the job done and scores.

i don't think so... at least not the shaq of late.. maybe a few years ago.

Yeah, but they are Americans.

That's like saying people from Washington DC can't play on the USA team and
need to form their own team.

no they're not, they're puerto ricans. Like American Samoa are American samoaons, and so on for each and every american territory.

The people of American Samoa are US nationals, but not US citizens.

The people of Puerto Rico are US citizens.
I just looked this up in the CIA World Fact Book, he's right folks. On that note though, Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the United States(not a territory), so it has a reasonable amount of control over its local affairs; the idea here is that it is receiving protection from the US in return for their allegiance to us. Now, American Samona is a territory, and are under direct control of the US; they do not have the independence of a Commonwealth, let alone a State.

There is no reason why a team that can field 25-30 players who are the top 30 players in the world should ever lose a game (let alone get blown out). I don't care who they play against or any other details. USA Basketball should be absolutely ashamed.
