Why does protein taste like crap?

I mean real protein is great:

Eggs
Milk
Cheeses
Meat

WTF?
 
I guess the logical answer would be that it's not the protein that gives it the flavour...?

I notice that all your 'real protein' examples are also relatively high fat. I'd presume that's where the flavour comes from.
 
All my protein taste good, I don't mind powders or drinks at all. Bars are hit and miss but the better they taste the worse they are for you generally.

Milk, cheeses, and lean meat have 0 fat...

Eggs have some cholesterol
 
What brand are you buying? If you want some flavor to your protein you can go with Gaspari Myofusion.

I also note that the really skim milk (which still has fat in it, by the way) tastes like water.

I've had a bit of everything, from Optimum to Muscle Milk. I try new bars all the time.
 
when I was on a strict diet, protein bars were the most delicious things in the world. guilt free way of getting my chocolate fix.
 
are you eating them dry??? Otherwise mix them with milk. O/N's chocolate with white milk tastes just like a choco-shake to me

I generally only eat "fat-free" cheese, as the regular stuff is just too high in fat for my tastes. There isn't quite as much flavor, but there's also less guilt, so I'll take what I can get.

And I actually prefer the way skim milk tastes to non-skim now that I'm used to it. It's definitely thinner, which I enjoy.

I've had very few powders or bars that I didn't enjoy, and even fewer that I couldn't stomach. Isopure vanilla mixed with milk is the best I've tried, although I've only ever had three tubs of protein in my entire 11 years of lifting, so I'm obviously not an expert.

For bars, Met-RX are easily my favorite, with the cookie dough flavor leading the pack.

It's not the protein powders that you're using that taste like crap. It's the "milk." If you used some delicious whole milk with your protein powders, it would taste like cake batter. Mmmm, I sure do love me some saturated fat. Me and my 123 cholesterol.
 
I like the ON Chocolate stuff. Of course it's better when you mix it with milk and throw a smidge of peanut butter in but I think it actually tastes decent with just water too.

Lactose Free Skim Milk is basically tastes Ice Cream. All that lactose has been converted into Glucose already and you u get all the protein as well. Win Win. No need for the fat intake. I like fat, but on my burgers... not my milk.

Glucose actually isn't sweet. Fructose is the sweet component in typical table sugar... so scientifically, your point is incorrect. Lactose free milk basically tastes like almond milk or something nasty. If I had access to it, I'd use heavy whipping cream + whole milk in my shakes. Then my cholesterol would jump to a whopping 140... oh noes. You don't like fat. You're obsessed with a weak relationship, especially in those individuals who are active.
