Why does no one play adult baseball?

I never understood it either.

There are competitive soccer, hockey ans basketball leagues, yet there is only flag football and softball.

I can understand football, because of the pads and equipment, but a baseball league would be easy to arrange.

It's a very dangerous sport for middle aged men. You're going from 0 MPH to 100 MPH all the time without warm up after standing standing around hours sometimes. Unless your body is highly tuned you'll get torn rotator cuffs, knee blowouts and generally break shit.

I can play Basketball, can still dunk even at 38, but no way on hell I'd even attempt to go from sitting in dugout to sprinting to first rounding it and sliding to second. I'd break something.

Maybe because baseball is only slightly less boring playing than watching?
I play hockey as it requires more movement and effort thus burns more calories. Plus you're encouraged to hit other people.

It's cuz when you get hit with a baseball it hurts more. Softball is just that, softer and lighter. Plus you can play with those heavier rubberized ones which are harder to throw fast and don't go as far when you hit them.

You can easily get hurt very badly playing infield in a 12 inch league. I play in a league that restricts bats and has a loose core to soften it and it would most definitely still fuck someone up. I hit a bomb about 390 feet last season.

Just stabbing at an educated guess as to why not many recreation hard baseball ...

Perhaps maybe it is because there are not that many recreation facilities designed for it?

Most of the recreation diamonds are designed for little league which is where recreation softball is also played usually and I don't think adult baseball is enjoyable in such small field.

Lot of pop fly outs would be homeruns in such facility...

This is true. Down here in southern Florida softball leagues are HUGE and are basically filled with ex minor league players. It's serious business, people have no problem cranking 'em out of the park routinely.

What's wrong with softball?

Umpire: Okay, let's go over the ground rules.
You can't leave first until you chug a beer.
Any man scoring has to chug a beer.
You have to chug a beer at the top of all odd-numbered innings.
Oh, and the fourth inning is the beer inning.
Chief Wiggum: [in baseball uniform] Hey, we know how to play softball.

A guy I used to work with plays in an adult league. He travels for at least 2 tourneys a year. He says most softball players are terrible when they try to transition to regular baseball. Baseball isn't something you can really just pick up. Takes a lot of practice. Even then you might still be a baddie.

Noob batters can't hit... especially when the noob pitchers can't throw. :\

Probably a big reason why.

Softball almost anyone can play and anyone reasonably athletic can make an immediate contribution. Just need one guy who can lob a ball in a general area of a plate.

I don't think that's the case with baseball.

Google: Mens Amateur Baseball League. Pretty active on the east coast.

I played a lot of baseball when I was younger, but now I golf. Why? Because my right humerus snapped in the middle of a pitch during a mens under 30 MABL game roughly 10 years ago. Think Dave Dravecky but without the cancer. Most excruciating thing I have ever experienced. And that includes the time I snapped the post medial epicondle tendon in my right elbow in the middle of a pitch while playing legion ball.

Word of advice. If you are 6' 2'', weigh 150lbs, and can throw 90+ mph . . . chances are your arm is going to break down pretty quickly and pretty unexpectedly. Take it from someone who knows.

Have you ever tried to get more than three adults together regularly for anything? Hell, you can't even count on folks to show up for a beer!

I love baseball, but I was never very good at it. An adult league would be fun, but I can't take these kinds of things seriously.

I was a high school baseball player. This spring I'll play in a church softball league that is strictly for fun.

I've played on a couple of teams that were highly competitive. Yes, its still softball but depending on the league you can get into some serious competition. Generally the more you pay to play the higher the league quality.
