Why does no one play adult baseball?

I'm 23 and need something active to do besides going to the gym or running...

I searched for adult softball and there is a thousand leagues, coed, different ages, slow pitch, modified etc... but its freakin softball. I played a few softball games on a friends team and its a joke, no offense.

I searched for adult baseball and all that comes up is 'minor league baseball' and there appears to be very few teams and it seems to be a all former D1 athletes that didn't make it to the pros. Probably out of my league.

There are a fair amount of fast pitch baseball leagues.
The problem is that the people who play in them are rather serious and usually decent baseball players. Not a whole lot of beer league fast pitch baseball leagues.

What you're looking for has a name. It's called the minor leagues. Baseball isn't exactly something hobby minded adults can just do every once in a while. It's a very technical, very difficult sport.

I never understood it either.

There are competitive soccer, hockey ans basketball leagues, yet there is only flag football and softball.

I can understand football, because of the pads and equipment, but a baseball league would be easy to arrange.

baseball, by nature, has always been seen by males as more competitive, and softball is a "pick-up game".

Yes there are the insane groups that take to softball as if they were pros and their livelihood depended upon success... but those are more rare.

Finding people who just want to have a friendly, non-stressful game of baseball... good luck. Any recreational leagues out there are going to be mostly full of people who were good, but not good enough to get picked by pro clubs, or never made it on the college baseball team.

I'd sure as hell play, being a kid who gave up after 1 year of barely missing the cut for a hardcore nazi-ran D1 high school team. I miss baseball.
And bet your ass I'd be competitive. I have trouble playing any sport and just goofing off.

There are some fast pitch leagues in Chicago that are decent.
Then again, there are some leagues where you have former college/minor leaguers mixed with people who thought they were great in HS but were nothing but bench warmers.
Too much talent disparity for my tastes.

but aren't those the leagues that play with those huge, painful baseballs? they're some 1.5x larger than softballs, no?

The chicagoland area has a shitload of 12 inch softball, 14 inch softball, 16 inch softball, fast pitch women's softball, and yes even men's baseball leagues.

For baseball there are age brackets, like open, over 30, over 40. Two of my friends play in one and face pitchers in the 80's.

Last year I played on three slow pitch 12 inch leagues, love smashing home runs. Just one league for me this year though.

Plenty of companies have softball leagues. I dunno why hardball is uncommon.

Because the average weight of the people at my company at least is probably 250lbs.

I understand the game is much harder, but I figured there would be a lot of good high school and college players that still look to play. I guess there are just fewer players... when I went to Rutgers, the D1 team was all monsters on scholarships so I checked out the club team. The club team was a bunch of gremlins that couldn't have beaten my hs freshman team. Nothing in the middle!

FYI baseball isn't that active. Most of the time you won't even leave home plate. If you want active, play something like soccer/basketball/football.

i played softball last fall. it was fun. don't knock it until you try it. 🙂

of course, hockey & golf are my #1 and #2, respectively.

It's cuz when you get hit with a baseball it hurts more. Softball is just that, softer and lighter. Plus you can play with those heavier rubberized ones which are harder to throw fast and don't go as far when you hit them.

Exactly, I can't be competitive with softball. I don't even need a glove to play outfield, and sorry little league bases and field sizes aren't too fun. I played varsity high school and could have played on a college team if I hadn't gone to a D1 school. I guess I'd be interested to see how good these players actually are, but most of the them travel too much or are just too serious in general. I need a good week night light travel baseball team, which does not exist.

Ok I should have said competitive then, not active. I suck at basketball and hate soccer but i do love flag football... hmmm

Because softball is about 85% the same game and 345% more enjoyable for 98% of the population over the age of 30?
