Why does my meat get slimey???

Seems like every once in a while, I get some deli-sliced Turkey breast at the store and after its opened, it gets a gooey slime/film on it after a few days.

What causes this phenomenon??? 😕

The reason I ask is because it's disgusting. It's as if someone smeared a bunch of vaseline on it. I usually peel off the outer layers and only eat the stuff in the middle. But then I end up wasting a lot of it.

I was expecting something completely different. I was going to tell you to practice better personal hygene. 😉

On a more serious note, you can try wrapping it in paper towels before sticking it in a ziplock bag. That keeps excess moisture away. Works to keep cheese from molding in the fridge so fast, so it might work for lunchmeat.

Hmm...then wouldn't I get some paper on it after peeling it away? I don't like wood fibers in my meat. :disgust:

It probably wouldn't stick to the meat permanently. Should be able to peel it off easily.

If you have to buy that quantity instead of a smaller amount, put half in the freezer.

Yeah, I guess...but I still end up eating a pound within 4-5 days if I'm on a sammich binge.
