Okay....maybe it's the price of living in Paradise....but come on.....

I order something online...even Newegg....
and shipping just for a couple sticks of RAM comes to over $30 to 40 bucks!

Yeah I know it has to travel by air....but so what?
Look at the continental US....they ship stuff by air there too....what's the difference that
it has to go over water?

It sucks.....

They do the same thing to us up here in Alaska. Supposedly a law was passed so that Alaska is officially part of the "continental United States," but we still get screwed with Fed Ex and UPS, as they simply say they only deliver here with 2 Day Air and Next Day Air.

30 for shipping:Q

might be better to just buy at a local place. probably the same price with that kind of shipping.

Maybe I need to rephrase that for YOU

I didn't ask for suggestions on what car...but rather what YOU would do?.....
geez....I didn't say I was going to do anything about it....
cut me some slack

oh, ok. change my sentence to reflect the 'suggestions' statement and reread it. then reply.

Ok...it's just that....it doesn't seem fair that Hawaii and Alaska get socked for
shipping.

But again....the price of Paradise.....*sigh*

and you should see the prices of GAS here!
and food and everything else....so we really pay the price all the way around.

Maybe that makes my RAM worth more too? lol

*edit*
I just thought maybe someone here could shed some light on WHY the shipping was
more, when the flight distance is basically the same as a cross Continental US route
for example.

'Ok...it's just that....it doesn't seem fair that Hawaii and Alaska get socked for

it seems pretty fair to me. they require special shipping attentions by DEFAULT. alaska has a choice of boat, air, or ground through canada. these are not cheap options. hawaii has the choice of boat or air. these are not cheap options.

'But again....the price of Paradise.....*sigh*'

it's not the price of paradise, it's the price for convincing yourself that where you live actually means something.

'and you should see the prices of GAS here!'

you can walk from one end of any island to the other in less than an hour.

'and food and everything else....so we really pay the price all the way around.'

yeah, i guess it's everybody else's fault that you don't join us here on the mainland.

'Maybe that makes my RAM worth more too? lol'

no, it makes your ram obsolete by the time it arrives.

The expenses to move freight to Hawaii is definatly more. I don't see how it's not "fair".

You are a remote location.

doesn't matter if it's in the middle of the ocean....distance wise if using
air freight which is UPS and Fedex.....it would be the same as say CA to NY or something like

Um... actually, it makes all the difference in the world.

FedEx and UPS utilize a hub-and-spoke system to minimize fuel costs, and provide quick delivery. In terms of shipping, point-to-point systems are costly, and slow. Cost savings are realized by breaking up long "spokes" into several shorter "spokes" separated by "hubs". Thus the "quickest" way between two points isn't necessarily a straight line.

Since it's impossible to reach any additional "hubs" on any Hawaii-bound flight, there is only a single unbroken "spoke" between Hawaii and the mainland.

Dedicated flight "spokes" = $$$

:)

Hows the population of your Island or Hawaii in general?

Maybe they just get less packages? So they can charge a 'premium'?

Or they just charge a premium to screw you guys over anyway? Businesses just tend to charge more to some people or for any service anyway.
